The Monthly Report - Girlfriend Magazine January Issue - Beauty Section

A little while ago I reviewed the beauty section of the Girlfriend magazine December issue. It became my fourth most popular post, so I figured a lot of people liked it. I then made the decision to make it something I do every month. I decided to title it 'The Monthly Report.' I enjoy doing these kinds of reviews as they are something interesting and different from my usual beauty product reviews. I love reading magazine reviews and haven't been able to find enough out there on the Internet, so if others can benefit from this it would be wonderful.

I have always loved the magazine issues that come out in Summer. They are so much more interesting than the winter ones. Better fashion, better beauty and better all round articles. The January issues of Girlfriend magazine in 2009, 2012 and 2011 were just incredible, so of course I was looking forward to this one. The January issues prior to 2009 didn't stand out as a highlight so much, but after that it was amazing. I don't know what it is, but there is something about the January issue that just makes it better than all the other issues of the year. What a wonderful way to kick off the new year.

This months cover was much, much better than the December issue. Still, that wouldn't be hard. It featured Nina Dobrev and a purple and lime green colour scheme. I think it looks gorgeous.

The beauty section (called Pretty Girl) began on page 115 and showcased this month's trend..."Freshly squeezed." According to Lauren Carter, the new beauty girl who wrote everything on this page, "This summer, it's all about juicy shades of orange - from tangy tangerine and pretty peach to the punch of pink grapefruit. It's like a dose of vitamin C for your digits, lips, cheeks and eyes -except waaay more fun." Hmmm...what orange stuff do I have? Orange shampoo, orange nail polish...that's about it. At a push I suppose my bronzer could be classed as orange...no, it really couldn't. On that page were lots of pretty pictures, including a gorgeous looking YSLRouge Volupte lipstick in Extreme Coral and Rimmel London Kate Moss Lasting finish lipstick in 12 lipstick (phew, what a mouthful!). A picture of two models wearing bright lippie in a colour that I would call neon orange, and a model wearing an orange dress and neutral makeup. Once again they have done something weird like that. Talking about tangerine makeup picturing a model not wearing that. Hmmm.

Turning the page we come to the two most dangerous pages of the whole magazine... our "Beauty fix," with all the latest and greatest products. Naturally I want them all, hence why they are so dangerous. We have some new "Mozi" lipbalms in six "delish fruity flavours" all for $15.95. We hear of the new BYS false lashes  - more than 50 different styles in the range -, some fake tan that doesn't smell, nail art pens, new mascara, and my personal favourite - scented nail polish. I don't own any scented nail polish, but don't you worry, it won't be long before I do. Cassandra asks "How do I get smooth, silky, shiny, not-a-strand-out-of-place hair? I've tried everything including an (extremely messy) olive oil home-remedy, but nothing seems to work. Help!" To summarise the answer (which is in fact exactly the same amount of words as the question, "Shampoo, conditioner, serum, straightener." Boring.

Page 118 revises the first page of Pretty Girl, with more orange makeup. To be honest, nothing on this page really grabbed me. I'm pretty sure orange makeup is not my thing.

For our beauty school feature this month we have "How to wax your legs." I don't know about you, but I thought this was pretty self explanatory, especially as they were explaining how to use the strips where you peel of the backing to reveal the wax, stick it to your leg, then rip it off. It's not rocket science. Anyhow, I didn't feel it was necessary to go into too much depth about this page...

The major feature for this month was Sunscreen and why it was important, what it does, how much to apply, the importance of SPF, and what to do once you have already burned yourself. To be brutally honest, I found it rather boring. I would much rather hear about cool new hairstyles, new and interesting makeup looks, someone's HG beauty products...anything but sunscreen. I love my sunscreen but I think it is interesting as talking about toilet paper. Essential, but boring as heck.

The last page of Pretty girl is the beauty editor's blog page. Girlfriend's new beauty editor LC titles it this month as, "Burning with Shame." She spends the whole page talking about how she got sunburnt, despite the fact that this month's feature was about the importance of wearing sunscreen. I found this to be an annoying post (would you call it a post?) to read, it just irritated me. if I was her I would have found something else to talk about, something less irritating and more interesting. I probably sound awful, but I'm not going to lie. I'm still trying to warm to this girl but it's not going so well.

So there we have it. A disappointment to say the least. What is going on? These sections of the magazine used to be several pages of amazing gold, but now it's just a couple of pages of nothing really. I hope it gets better I really do, but after two duds it's not looking promising.



Magazine Makeover - Day 7

Today's magazine is called 'Young, Hot and Famous.' I have only ever seen it at one Newsagent, which indicates how popular it is here! I don't know anyone who has ever heard of it here in Australia, and I don't know where it comes from. The magazine itself is alright, not too bad, but it's just a mystery where on Earth it came from!

Today's challenge was one about hairstyles, and I chose to do the look named 'Romantic up-do,' shown on Taylor Swift.

I expected this to be difficult, but not impossible. Because my hair is so long, I find it difficult to recreate looks that aren't specifically done on long hair. Usually buns are hard because they are so huge, but I thought that maybe this would be okay.

My hair is naturally really straight, so in order to create the waves as shown, I tied my hair into a damp plait the day before. When I woke up I had beautiful crinkly hair. I wasn't able to brush my hair because it would have brushed the crinckles out, so I had to gently pull any knots out with my fingers. The more I fiddled, the straighter and straighter my hair became. Oh dear, I could tell this was going to be a disaster.

I didn't even bother following their instructions. Boby pins would never ever hold my hair up.

As I tied my hair up into a ponytail, it was looking disastrous. My hair was not doing what it should. I tried pulling bits out of the ponytail in order to create a looser head of hair. Bits flew out everywhere and I looked very lopsided. I fiddled and fiddled, and of course by then most of my hair was looking scraggly and limp. So much for the crinckles. As I tried to twirl it up into a bun it fell out everywhere, pieces flying in every direction. The bun itself was bigger than my actual head. This was awful.

So, as you can imagine I kind of failed today's magazine makeover. Hmmm.

I think I'll stick to the styles I can do well and have grown to love. I know my hair best!

Whilst today's challenge was not my favourite, it has inspired me to find some more hairstyles that suit my hair. It is really difficult to find ways to do my waist length hair (when I sit down it just touches the bottom of the seat). I have contemplated cutting some of it off, but I just cannot do it. I am very much attached to my hair! I don't want it any longer, if fact, I honestly do think it is too long now...a couple of centimetres must go! I think I shall go and book into the hair dressers...

Magazine Makeover - Day 6

Today's challenge comes from the magazine 'Cosmo girl.' It is an American Magazine I believe, and I used the August 2007 issue. I flicked through and came across page 58, lips with two different colours. 'Oh my!' was my first reaction. 'Never in a million years!' Still, I was interested in having a shot, but was not willing to step outside the house with it on. I was also wanting to tone it down significantly, so I picked two colours that were a little closer in colour and shade in comparison to the lips on the model.

I tried it with each lipstick having a turn on the top and the bottom. I like it better when the bubble gum pink is on the top and the hot pink is on the bottom. What do you think? This is what it looked like...Did I pull it off? (Haha)

It was so much fun to try out, but I would never wear it in public! It is also quite difficult to keep like that because I am someone who smushes their lips together when wearing lipstick, gloss and balm. For those who love daring makeup, I suggest you give it a go because it was wonderful fun, and I reckon other people could pull it off! Like the model for instance, she makes it look totally normal!

Just as I finished this challenge, I was flicking through a recent magazine (the December 2011 issue of Girlfriend) and I spotted this exact look on one of their models! How weird is that! I was so excited!

The girl in Girlfriend magazine inspired me to try again, but with two shades of lipstick closer in colour. I used the BYS lipstick in Sassy salmon and the BYS lipstick in the shade Coral Kiss. I like it better than the lipsticks in two very different shades...what do you think?

Magazine Makeover - Day 5

I was very interested in doing this one because I usually focus on the lips and I am not too outrageous when it comes to the eyes. I do, however wish to start trying out some interesting things. I used my DB eyeshadow palette to create this look.

It had two lovely purples/lilacs which is exactly what I needed. I didn't use the eyeliner but I put on some mascara which looked good.

I had heard several times that purple was a beautiful colour for green eyes, but had never actually tried it out. I considered this be a good opportunity to have a go and see whether it really did look lovely or whether it ended up making me look like some pathetic clown.

The instructions listed just said: Use a shimmering lilac over the lid and then a darker colour in the outer corners of the eye. It suggested to use a black liquid liner but I didn't do that. I think it would have looked lovely but it was a bit too dramatic since I wanted it to go with a casual look.

I applied the lilac over my eyelid and it was quite sheer. I was hesitant to stack it on because I didn't want to end up looking as though I had a black eye, but I did add a little extra in order to make the colour stand out a bit more. When I was relatively happy with the outcome, I added the Darker shade in the outer corner. It didn't really stand out all that much, but it was visible. I don't think the photo allows it to stand out though, so it probably looks as if the whole lid is just one colour.

I then applied some mascara to the top lashes (yeah, I kind of forgot about the bottom ones!). I used the NP Set Mascara. I think it turned out to be quite nice It is very subtle, but you don't really want it to be too obvious. The picture of the model doesn't show too much colour either, so it was kind of similar.

Well, I don't think it turned out absolutely brilliantly. I tried again and made it more dramatic - this is what it turned out like:

It looks no different does it?! Argh! I did enjoy this challenge but I am not all convinced with the results. It didn't really turn out as hoped. I did pack on the colour the second time, but I think the shadows either just are not pigmented enough, the camera doesn't pick it up or I am just terrible at this sort of thing...I think a combination of all three!

Magazine Makeover - Day 4

Travelling across the world we come to America, where they have the popular 'Seventeen magazine.' Once again I was very lucky to find this in an Op-shop.

I decided to focus on the article 'Look like a celeb' on page 114 of the August 2007 issue of Seventeen Magazine. It had several tips on how to look like a celeb, but I focused on the lips (hey, I love lips!).

It said to make lips look plumper, apply a lipstick and then gloss on the bottom lip and peaks of the top lip.

You can see in the photos what happened.

Now, if you read the rules of this challenge, you would be aware that I have to try something new or something I haven't done in the past six months. I know, it would appear that I am just doing something I always do, however you would be mistaken. I generally have a rule - colour or gloss, not both. I either wear colour (lipstick) or gloss (lipgloss) and rarely, rarely do I wear both. Weird, I know, but it's just this thing I do. Anyway, by wearing both I am still breaking the rules. However, I always lather the gloss all over my lips, not just on the arches of my top lip. In fact, I hadn't heard of just applying it there. I had heard of putting it in the middle of your bottom lip, but not on the top arches. So, therefore, I am following the rules!

So, I took a before shot with absolutely nothing on - not even a lip balm. It came out alright, except that it made my lips look a totally different colour - they are way darker, more of a red colour than what the picture indicates.

After, I then applied a coat of my Loreal Paris Made for me Intense Lipstick in Pink Fever. Actually, I think I applied two coats. Yep, two coats. I then applied Savvy by DB Lip Jewels lip gloss in Pink Diamond (that was a mouthful!) on my bottom lip and the arches of my top lip (as instructed).

You know, I have no idea how I am supposed to keep the lipgloss in place, because it just managed to spread itself all over my lips (which is how I would normally wear it).

I was a bit disappointed with how the second photo came out, because it really did just seem that I spread the gloss everywhere.

Oh well, I think this challenge was successful anyway.

So, do my lips look more glamorous and celebrity like? Yes, I believe they do, but I don't think they are any plumper. In fact, I think the first picture without anything looks plumper. Oh well, the second picture is lovely. I am obsessed with this colour...



Did I enjoy this challenge: Yes, I did, it was nice to try out both colour and gloss, and see a new way of doing it. As I mentioned before, I have never heard of just applying it on the arches.

Was it hard or easy to do: It was very easy to do, but hard to keep the gloss in its place.

Would I do it again: Sure would! I personally think it looks lovely, glossy and glamorous - just like a celebrity - hahaha.

Was it successful overall: Yes, I believe it was.

Magazine Makeover - Day 3

Today I decided to go for a magazine not from Australia. I found this little gem in an Op-Shop, and I discovered that it was actually from the UK. I quite enjoyed reading it, though it had very few pages - only 98! (My girlfriend magazines have approximately 170 pages!)

Today's magazine was the June 2011 issue of 'Bliss.' I searched through this magazine and loved looking at all the products from overseas. I was excited when I came across an item that I actually had, and decided to base today's challenge on it.

On page 68 and 69 was an article called 'Hair and Beauty SOS!'. It had tips and tricks on everything from dull skin and sudden spot outbreaks to dandruff and frizzy hair. I focused on 'sparse lashes.' They advised to condition lashes at night (which I didn't do) and use an eyeliner on the top to make the lashes look fuller.  With the eyeliner, mine was brown rather than black. I used the exact eyeliner suggested in the magazine (Maybelline Eyestudio gel liner) except in the different colour. Still I hoped that it would look okay, and here are the results.

You may be thinking, "Wait! You're cheating - you said all the challenges had to be something you hadn't done ever or within 6 months!" Well, you clever little cookie, you would be right. But here's the thing, I am very scared of dark liquid/gel liner. Very scared.

The first reason is that I suck at putting it on. The second reason is that I am afraid it is going to end up all over my face. So, for the past six months I have stuck to white eyeliner on the inner corners of my eyes. (Very eye brightening, by the way!) Even though I did a review on the eyeliner and posted it before this, I actually did this first and then posted the review (sneaky, huh!)

So, this challenge is going to be very hard for me, purely because of my lack of skill. Oh dear.

Right, do you want to know what happened? You are in luck, because that is exactly what I am about to tell you! (I am in such a silly mood today!) I spent ages and ages trying over and over again to get it right, and then finally I finished with something I was pleased with.



Here's what I used



I put a reasonably thick line on my upper lashline (with great difficulty) and was at first not really sure whether I liked it or not.

This photo seems as though the eyeliner isn't very obvious, but in actual fact it was quite dark. Not sure what's going on there... Considering I wasn't wearing any mascara, I do think my lashes do look a little thicker. I do like this look and would do it again. I think I need a better eyeliner though, because it really isn't as dramatic as it was supposed to be...

Magazine Makeover - Day 2

Today I decided to follow the rules of the Girlfriend Summer of 2009/2010 issue. It was a horrible challenge because I had to make my toenails look pretty and perfect. (By the way, I was being sarcastic when I said it was horrible - it's hard to be sarcastic through writing!)

Before I continue on though, I'll mention that this was a special edition of the Girlfriend magazine. It wasn't part of the monthly magazines they publish, it was a special one just for Summer. it was one of my favourite issues, although I think it is partly because I just love all this summer related and that everything inside was Summer stuff that I loved. I do love the cover though, I think it is just beautiful!

Anyway, where was I? Oh, how horrible it was to take time to sit down and make my nails look pretty. Well, the article on page 50 and 51 said that 'the hottest colours for summer are green, orange and pink, along with bright blue.' I am a massive fan of oranges and pinks and therefore I decided to go for a bright, bold colour for summer.
Ahhh, I haven't given myself a proper pedicure in sooooo long. I usually just slap a bit of polish on in a huge rush, because I hadn't prepared and suddenly realised that I was wearing open shoes and saw my disgusting nails and realised I had to do something about it before someone saw the horrid things! Yuck.

Right, well I started of with my finger nails. I actually took the time to trim them and file them nicely (normally I am in such a rush!) until I was totally pleased with how they looked. Then onto the polish! I chose to wear my Ulta Nail polish in Watermelon  because I just love this colour! I suppose it is kind of an Autumn colour rather than summer, but oh well!



I applied two lovely coats of polish and then a clear top coat. I always have so much trouble with chipping so I hope this top coat will make it last so much longer.

I am very happy with how it all turned out. Usually at least one of my nails gets terribly smudged (and I can't stand that!) but this time it all turned out okay. I have learnt only to do my nails when I have a load of spare time on my hands!

Then I moved onto my toenails! I had purple on my nails but it was a bit scrappy, so of course the first thing I had to do was get it all off.  After getting it all off, I then applied two coats of the Rimmel London 60 nail polish in Coarlicious! Of course, it was very quick because it dried in 60 seconds! I really love the brush that comes with this, it's flat and covers so much of the nail and allows you to get a really even coating of polish. I do like the colour but gosh is it bright! The colour on my nails is pastel but the colour on my toes is fluorescent! You almost need sunglasses! (haha). I didn't bother with a top coat because a) I'm too lazy and b) I don't have a problem with chipping on my toes!

Magazine Makeover - Day 1

 Day 1 of 'Magazine Makeover' and I have decided to kick off the challenge with a hair tip from the June 2011 issue of Dolly.

On pages 116 and 117 is an article full of hair ideas - in fact, a whole weeks worth of hair ideas. Now, usually, as my hair is so long, none of the hair ideas work for me, but the 'Wednesday' hair idea caught my eye. It showed a fishtail braid which I had never tried before and thought looked interesting.

Of course, I was not nearly skilled enough to manage it myself, but with a little help from my lovely Auntie I was able to get my hair done in a fishtail braid. Now, warning you right away, it does not look NEARLY as good as the one the girl in the magazine has. For a start, mine is way tighter than hers (which I am aware could be easily fixed). And of course, my hair is brown!

Anyhow, here is how it went!

 So, to the left you can see that the model's hair is is a fishtail braid on the side. I did mine from the back which made a big difference, and it was a lot tighter than hers.

So, obviously they are quite different, but I think it turned out okay...

Did I enjoy this challenge: Well, I didn't actually do my hair myself, but I know my Auntie enjoyed doing my hair. I enjoyed trying something new out with my hair. That was good...

Was it hard or easy to do: I found it very hard to do it myself - I attempted it and gave up within two minutes, but my Auntie knew exactly what to do. I think it depends on who does it whether it is hard or not.

Would I do it again - Yes, but I wouldn't make it so harsh. I would soften it and make it looser. I would try to wear it on the side, but I'm not confident that it would go all that well.

Was it successful overall: Yes, I suppose it was fairly successful, although it was definitely not my most favourite hairstyle ever.

Magazine Makeover

If you have read my other post 'Old or New - 2012 or 2002' you would know that I am a magazine collector. In fact, I absolutely love the teenage magazines (I am a teenager, after all). I have several favourite parts of the magazine, but most of all I love the beauty sections (no surprises there!).

Well, while flipping through one of my now 168 magazines (mostly made up of the Australian magazines 'Girlfriend' and 'Dolly') I was inspired to do a challenge. Yes, a challenge.

I called it the 'Magazine Makeover.'

For ten days I am going to take a beauty tip/rule/idea out of a magazine. The rules of the challenge are as follows:

1) Every day I must try something new, or something that I haven't done within the last 6 months.
2) I must get a new tip out of a new magazine every day - I cannot get a tip out of the same magazine for two days.
3) I must take a photo of the front cover of the magazine and the page that the tip was on
4) I must take a photo of my attempt unless it doesn't even slightly resemble the magazine.
5) At the end of the day I must state whether I enjoyed following the tip, whether it was hard/easy to do, whether I would do it again and whether or not it was successful overall.
6) At the end of the challenge I must state which ones were my favourite and whether I would do any of them again.

The Monthly Report - Girlfriend Magazine December issue - Beauty Section

Remember when I told you about my beauty heroes and rattled on about Sarah Tarca? If you have no idea what I am talking about, read it here and then come back!

Right, now we've got past that, we can continue with the story. I recently received my Girlfriend magazine for December 2011 in the letter box, and I thought I might do a review on the beauty section.

However, before I comment on that I must warn you that the cover is absolutely hideous. Sorry Girlfriend magazine team, but I honestly do not know what on earth you were thinking. I absolutely adored the cover of the November issue (dare I say that it may have been my favourite EVER!) but the December cover, my gosh. It was awful. Never mind, you can never judge a book by its cover, can you?!

Let's begin. Page 101 is where our beauty adventures begin featuring makeup titled "bright on baby! - It's loud. It's bright. It's neon. Forget subtle shades of liner, laquer and lippie, coz this month it's all about bright orange, neon blue, electric yellow and ultraviolet. Paint it on and rock it - we dare you!"

Hmm, not my most favourite makeup look of all time, but there you go. It pictures two model shots - one with who I think is Abbey Lee Kershaw wearing fluorescent lippie, and one with two models wearing fluoro clothes and plain, neutral makeup. Wait, what?! Yes, I said it, their makeup couldn't be any more neutral at all.

Turn the page and you shall find a page of pretty things, and new items in the beauty land. Ahhhh, I drooled over this page for a while. I've decided I also want the Kit Lip-loving Kit containing a wild strawberry lip balm and a "super shiny pink lipgloss." Sounds exciting! Is it me or does adding 'wild' to the flavour strawberry make it so much more enticing? Anyway,Cassy age 14 asks, "What shade of eyeshadow should I use for school that's subtle but pretty? And how can I make my eyes look bigger?" Laurel Brown from Rimmel London responds with an answer something like "A subtle option would be a soft mushroom colour on your eyelid with a slightly darker shade either brown or grey on the lash line." Next we hear that Christmas is the season to wear pretty, shimmery gold makeup. We hear a little about Taylor Swifts new fragrance (a sample is included on one of the pages in the magazine) and we discover that a European makeup line has made its way into Target here in Australia - Essence cosmetics. Never heard of it, but Girlfriend recommends it for people who love brights! Turning the page once again we have a repeat of page 101 - it just showcases loud, crazy makeup.

On page 106 we have a beauty school page, helping us learn how to apply fake tan. I personally am not a big fan of the fake tan (hey, that rhymes!) so I just continued on...

Page 108 and 109 tells you how to deal with all your summer hair dilemmas - Split ends, frizz, oily hair, dry hair, dull hair and bleached hair is covered thoroughly. No more hair problems for you!

Then on page 110...*drum roll please*....The new Beauty guru has arrived!!! Her name is Lauren (or LC) and she introduces herself as "a hopeless romantic who tends to fall down stairs and flat surfaces a lot." She also likes bright lippies and thinks her job is amazing because she can paint her nails at her desk and her boss is totally cool with it. I think I will have to wait for a couple issues until I can make my mind up about the new beauty guru. She has big shoes to fill and I hope she can manage! Under her boss' guidance (Sarah Tarca) I'm sure she will be wonderful!

So, that pretty much sums up the beauty section for this month. Was it amazing? No. Was it good, mmmm, Girlfriend has done much better. Still, without a beauty editor, how were they supposed to have a million quality pages of beauty? I think that now that they have a new beauty buff, things will start picking up. I didn't really learn all that much or become that inspired with the beauty pages this month, but being the Girlfriend magazine fan that I am, I am SURE that it will only get better. I'm so looking forward to next month because it is the January issue, and I truly believe that every January issue of Girlfriend magazine is amazing. Usually the best for the whole year. True story!

OId or New - 2012 or 2002 - Mag 5

Today's magazine is the Dolly September 2003 issue, with the lovely Delta Goodrem on the cover.

Page 101 is where the beauty begins, and this page is packed full of things to talk about.

Our trend alert is mauve, and it is recommended for wearing on the eyes, nails and lips. It is described as 'as step up from pink but not as out-there as punk purples.' It is also supposed to suit most girls. For the eyes they say to only apply the shadow on the lid, no further than the crease. For the lips they suggest you go sheer and glossy, and for the nails, apply two coats.

Also on the page, is Kelly Rowland's must have product (mascara), and that her favourite makeup look (natural). There is a list of new products that have entered the beauty atmosphere, including lip, fragrance and eye related products.

It then moves on to what your favourite eyeshadow colour says about you. Actually, I'm not sure if they mean favourite colour in general, or eyeshadow colour, but it is on the beauty page so I shall assume they mean eyeshadow colour! I'll list it here.

Red - The power colour, you are ready for anything. It helps you overcome your fears.

Orange - You're wise and enjoy living life to the full. It helps make your relationships balanced.

Yellow - You're full of sunshine and happiness. It helps you focus and make intelligent decisions

Green - You're calm and can handle things well. It helps you be thoughtful to everyone.

Blue - You're a confident person. It helps you communicate effectively.

Violet - You are connected to who you are. It puts your mind and body in harmony.

White - You're peaceful. It helps you deal with things differently; you see the bigger picture.

Yeah, I think they were referring to your favourite colour in general. Well, they did put pictures of eyeshadow. I don't know!

It then had a little bit about how to put on pencil and liquid eyeliner. I agree with their instructions.

104 was the most exciting page though, because it was 'trend spotter - all the wild looks that rocked Australian Fashion week.' There were six looks:

1) Retro glam at Sass and Bide - Shade brown eyeshadow onto lids and line lashes with black eyeliner, then use mascara or false lashes. Rub pink blush onto apples of cheeks and use pink gloss on lips.
2) 20s at Gabriel Scarvelli - use false eyelashes and apply a line of charcoal grey. Baby pink blush and matte lipstick Pain nails with pink polish and white polish on tips.

3) Pastel at Third Milennium - Colour eyelids in aqua and draw a thick line underneath eyes. Tip ends of lashes with mascara. Creme, pink blush onto cheekbones and glossy pink lipstick onto lips. Crimp ends of hair and backcomb crimps.

4) Mauve at Fashion Assasin - Colour eye area in beige and then shade mauve shadow from outer corners to eyebrows. Line eyes with black liner. Make a big quiff with hair.

5) Electric blue at Marcs Baby Doll - Aqua eyeshadow on lids from lash line to crease of eye. Flick colour out to side. Shade blue liner out to side and along lash line. Create a fake beauty spot with liquid eyeliner. Blue mascara. Pink blush on cheekbones and pale pink lipstick.

6) Red at Billion Dollar Babes - False red eyelashes and red mascara. Mauve eyeliner down bottom. Bright pink blush on under eye area and cheekbones and bright red lipstick.

I don't know about you, but no way would I try red eyelashes with pink blush under my eyes and red lippie. Oh my! Not would I go the full on blue-eye look.

Well, I hope you enjoyed the whole 'Old or New - 2012 or 2002' series of posts. I did, but I am saving the best for later on. I have a whole new idea where I use my magazines for beauty purposes, and hopefully it will be just as fun, if not even better!
