My Makeup bag collection

Let me get this straight: I have absolutely no idea how I acquired this many makeup bags. Seriously, are the breeding in my cupboard or something?

Since I have so many I figured I may as well show you them all.

1. Green and white with stripes - I posted about this one here, but basically I picked it up from the Op-shop (it was new) for $2. It was originally from Clinique.

2. White bag with red trimming - Perhaps the most boring one of the lot, this one was also from Clinique but I picked it up new from the Op-shop (it was years ago though).

3. Clear makeup bag - I bought a whole heap of Formula 10.0.6 skincare products (most of which I really didn't like) and this was the bag that they came in. I'm not a fan of the clear plastic, but it is handy when you need to find things quickly and easily.

4. Small pink plastic with black trimming - Basically I haven't got a clue where this came from!

5. Cream with gold trimming - I was given this as a gift, I believe it came from Avon. It's more like a pencil case than a makeup bag though.

6. Floral printed bag - this is a silky material and came from Sportsgirl, though this was another gift. I use it for jewellery when I am travelling.

7. Silver and white striped bag - I have no idea where this came from, but it is pretty appalling (all the stitches are falling apart and it is very poorly made) and I'm not keen on it.

8. Red and white striped bag - Yet another gift, this one is from Tommy Hilfiger and I imagine it would have cost a fair bit to purchase!

9. Pink and white printed bag with black trimming - This is a really good size for a weekend long trip, for those who pack an excessive amount of makeup. It lets you pack a fair bit but not go too crazy!

There it is, my makeup bag collection. It's not a terribly thrilling post but everyone needs one, and I'm quite nosy and like looking at other people's makeup bags!

My Travel Makeup Bag

When I go travelling, whether it be for a weekend, a week or a month, whether it be a camping trip or a luxurious stay in a hotel, I always pack too much makeup. Always.

I'm the kind of person who packs 'just in case,' justifying any ridiculous additons to my suitcase with the phrase 'but what if...(insert ridiculous scenario here).' Who knows, maybe I will end up going out to dinner at a posh restaurant in the middle of a camping trip, which of course would mean I have to pack my red lippie. It hasn't happened yet, but it could.

I have noticed that when I go travelling, any plans that I have made regarding the kind of looks I am hoping to wear and the makeup I am planning to apply fly out the window. I become terribly lazy and only want to wear the bare minimum, if any at all. Nevertheless I still pack way to much makeup, and enjoy every second of cramming as much as I can into the little nooks and crannies of my already overpacked suitcase (I am an expert at shoving yet another blush inbetween my socks and another mascara in the pockets of my third pair of jeans!)

This time is going to be different though, I am going to pack as little as possible because I am only going on a road trip for five days. I do not need ten lipsticks in a range of pinks, nor do I need three foundations. At least, that is what I keep telling myself.

Here are the lucky products  that have wiggled their way into my makeup bag. I doubt most of them will be worn, and I'm sure whatever I leave out I will need, but sometimes you just have to go with the flow and deal with it.

- Girlz Only Dry Shampoo
- Covergirl Lash blast length waterproof Mascara
- Garnier BB cream
- Maybelline Dream Lumi touch Concealer
- Maybelline Dream Matte Powder
- Essence lipstick - All about Cupcake
- Essence lipstick - In the Nude
- Savvy lipstick - Pretty Pink
- Nivea fruity shine lipalm - Pink Guava
- Maybelline baby lips balm - Limited Edition
- Essence lipgloss - Me and my Ice-cream
- BYS blush - Candyfloss
- Brushes - Kabuki, Contour and blush, eyebrow brush/comb
- Essence eye souffle - Pas Des Copper
- Maybelline eyeshadow trio - Autumn Spirit
- Clean and Clear Moisturiser
- Marc Jacobs 'Daisy eau so Fresh' Perfume
- Smart Skin Makeup wipes (I only use them when travelling as I am always too lazy/tired to wash my face properly!)
- Essence Clear Brow Gel
- Tweezers
- Nail file

Okay, so maybe there are a couple of additional products that I don't really need, but I think this is pretty good. It is quite amazing how little space these take up to be honest, I can cram all the makeup into this lovely Tommy Hilfiger makeup bag I am so glad I received as a present, and have room to spare!

A little clean up

I have been so unbelievably busy lately, and unfortunately I will continue to be like that for the next three weeks. I hate to say it but my blog is going to suffer, though I am going to try my best and post as often as possible.

Due to my chaotic life lately, my makeup organisation was the last thing on my mind and it managed to get a little out of control. I spent last weekend cleaning it up a little. It is by no means perfect, and I am not 100% happy with it, but it is better than it was before!

I cannot stand the colour of this - the orange is awful, but until I find
a white one, this will have to do!

My temporary brush holder

And this is how it looks now after a little bit of cleaning up...

This was really easy to do and looks so much better than that old mug

I'm still not completely happy with how my makeup is stored, there is still a whole heap shoved away somewhere...(beware, it's disgraceful!)

But what can you do...

What a Makeup mess - Updated!

Since organising my makeup stash, I have found a better way to do it so I thought I would quickly post a photo.

I found a cutlery draw at the shops for two dollars, and even though it's not my favourite colour in the world, it allows for a more organised makeup draw. Unfortunately it doesn't hold as much makeup as my previous storage idea, but it looks better and is less cluttered.

I now have to find somewhere for a whole basket of lip products and my 48 eyeshadow palette. Hmmm...

What a makeup mess!

Sometimes when I have a busy week, my makeup draw can get a little out of hand. Okay, a lot out of hand. This week it got so out of hand that I was disgusted with myself. It was so bad, I am embarrassed to post this picture up. So why am I going to? Because I am proud of how I have fixed it up. It is SO much better now that I have fixed it up. Thank goodness, because it couldn't really get much worse!

Before the great clean-up
I didn't even know that it could ever get so bad. I had so much trouble trying to find stuff in there, that I ended up playing 'whatever makeup you pick out with your eyes closed is what you will wear' every morning. Needless to say, it inspired me to clean up the disgraceful mess.

I decided that I really needed to go online and have a look at some makeup storage ideas. Seriously, I needed help. I wanted an organised system, that would allow me to find things quickly and easily.

Well, this is what I came up with, and whilst it isn't exactly what I wanted, it is definitely better than what I had before!

At the very back are some spare hair ties, a backup moisturiser and more lip balms (yes more!). In the top left box is all my face products - foundation, blush, concealer and bronzer. The next box on was really whatever I couldn't fit anywhere else, and included more lipbalms, Lucas' Papaw ointment, gel eyeliner and Physicians formula pearls of perfection. Under the blue thing, is my DB 48 eyeshadow palette. The blue thing itself was actually for holding pencils, for I filled it with my eyeliners and lip liners, and the small brushes that I owned that would fit in there. The two green baskets contain lipsticks, lipglosses and lip balms. The spotty blue box in the bottom right is the rest of my eye products - shadows and mascaras (oh, and a brush).

So there you have it - it is much better than before that is for sure, but it is still not amazing. Until I think of a better idea, this is how I shall have it.

By organising this, I also found out that I have lost my Nivea Strawberry lip balm, which is funny because I never use it and in theory it should be in the draw. That's rather frustrating...

Anyhow, I am glad that it is all sorted out because now I can actually find things!
