When I was in Cambodia we were able to take a little boat ride down the Tonle Sap River to see all of the floating villages. There are literally floating villages aligning each side of the river and those living there rely on the river for a living. I was astounded by their way of life, and I only saw the tiniest glimpse of it! We passed a floating school, church, restaurant, supermarket, timber yard and apparently there was even a floating pig farm!

Great candid shots. Did you get to visit the city?
ReplyDeleteThese photos actually make me long for another holiday in Asia!
Thank you! Unfortunately we didn't get to see any more than what we could on the boats, but certainly when we were on land building the houses we were able to have a look around in the village. I want to go back SO much!

Wow this looks amazing! xx
ReplyDeleteIt was! :)
DeleteThat is amazing! Were they floating like the huts in Bora Bora?! Do you know how it came about, like as to why they decided to live as if on sea as opposed to on land? I think it would be one of the coolest things ever to see pigs swimming around on on their own floating farm.
ReplyDeleteThey weren't so much like the floating huts in Bora Bora but rather like little houseboats that go up and down the river as the seasons change. As far as I recall, it is considerably cheaper to live on the river as opposed to the land and as they rely on the resources from the river, it is easier to live right on it! We didn't actually get to see the pig farm in person but I am sure it would have been pretty strange!

Oh so they move?! I love that! I love discovering other cultures where they've adjusted to life differently to the way we have now. Shows how amazing the human race can be! Loving this series, Candice!
DeleteThey certainly do move :) Their whole houses can travel up and down the river if need be! You're right, it is amazing! Thanks SO much for your support :)
