The Face of Australia Pastels collection was one that I was very interested in as soon as I saw it. Whilst my nail polish collection is of a fairly large nature, it is certainly lacking in pastels. The two shades that caught my eye instantly were "Would you like some orange sherbet?" and "After Dinner Mint."
"Would you like some orange sherbet?" is a light apricot shade, which I think would be better named "Peaches and cream" or something similar. It is quite a bit brighter in real life than it appears in the photo, and if I'm really honest with you, looks quite sickly on my nails. I'm not sure whether it just doesn't suit my skin tone or what, but I really haven't fallen in love with it like I had hoped.
It was concerningly thin and streaky upon the initial layer of application, by layer 2 it was looking a little more promising, and by layer three it evened out even further. It still looks streaky and uneven though after three layers, and I am not impressed with the formulation.
Considering that I usually love Face of Australia's products, this has come as quite a disappointment. I thought I was really going to love this, but I just haven't.
You can pick these up for $4.95.
I can't find this range anywhere! But from what you said..the formula seems pretty bad. I hate that most of my pretty pastels have streaky formulas :(
ReplyDeleteThe formula isn't the greatest, but if you are still interested you can pick this up at places like Priceline, Kmart, Big W...

I have this but I haven't actually used it yet!

I'd be interested in hearing what you think about it :)

I bought the lavender/lilac shade called Boys 'N' Berries as a present for someone so I never actually tried it! I hope even though the formulation is streaky, the colour payoff is still good! I've never used any Face of Australia nail polishes before so it would be interesting to see what they're like.
ReplyDeleteI walked past their shelf at Kmart and the pastels range caught my eye, they do have some nice colours there.
The orange shade you picked up looks more nude to me than orange, haha.
I was thinking about picking up Boys 'N' Berries, it's a lovely shade. Other Face of Australia nail polishes that I have tried were so mjch better, so this one was quite disappointing. In real life it definitely looks orange :)

I have this and I absolutely love it! I don't know what your on about it being streaky? I have had no trouble, maybe is the shape or texture of your nails? Just a thought :) Shame you don't like it :( I would recommend it to anyone :)
ReplyDeleteIt's good that you really like it! I had so much trouble with it being streaky, though like you said it could be because of my nails. I don't usually have all that much trouble though...
DeleteMm that sucks! I hope you didn't get a dodgy batch then because I think they're great! I have 5 of the pretty pastel colour and 2 of the Barbados collection (all in foa brand) and I'm just about to purchase and remainder of the Barbados collection and the bright collection from fashionaddict.com.au. What did you think of the after dinner mint one? :)
DeleteI have one from the Barbados collection and it has a much better formula. The After Dinner Mint one had a similar formula, unfortunately. I mean, they're not horrible and considering the price it's pretty good, it's just that I have a few FOA products that I love and these just weren't one of them.

I think the one that I picked up from last month may have been a dodgy batch! The person I gave it to as a gift showed it to me after she applied it and it didn't look very pretty, not at all. The formulation was dreadful and streaky, the more coats she put in, the messier it looked (instead of making the colour more intense and nicer). To be honest, she said that it looked like she dipped her nails in a paint bucket that's about to go off.
DeleteI don't think this will put me off Face of Australia products though, I may still purhcase some of their products in the future. I'm not that fussy when it comes to nail polish, I don't really mind whether it's branded or unbranded as long as it does the job and looks nice after applying, then it's alright for me.
It seems as though perhaps it wasn't a dodgy batch but that was just the way the formula was - streaky and uneven. Maybe Sarah just got a good one and hers was the unusual polish!
DeleteI've tried a couple of other FOA polishes and they were much better than this one. I love many of their makeup products, I think they are a really good brand. This certainly won't turn me off of their brand.
I know what you mean about not being terribly fussy about brands when it comes to nail polish. Have you tried any Ulta3 polishes? They are about two dollars each and I've had a lot of success with them. In saying that, I have had one or two that have been pretty ordinary, but most of the time they are really quite good.
xx
That's good that their other products are much better, it's also a good representation of something that's Australian =)
DeleteYes! I actually have quite a few of the Ulta 3 nail polishes. You're right in that, they are really good for their cheap price. I mean, usually, if something's only $2, you wouldn't expect it to be well and do their job but Ulta 3 is an exception, haha. I only found out recently as well that they have a make-up range! I don't know how long that's been around but I checked out their stuff and they look ok to me.
So true, you wouldn't expect something for $2 to perform so well. I only just realised there was a makeup range the other day, but I resisted from purchasing anything because I feel like my collection is getting a bit out of hand!
