I've never been one for blue or green polish, at least not on myself. I have, however, always found myself drooling over other people's nails when wearing such polishes, and that is exactly what happened when I became surrounded by all the hype for the polish Essie Candy Mint Apple. I wanted it so desperately but I knew deep down that it just wasn't a polish for me. Had it been under $5 I would have purchased it, but at $20 I wasn't so keen.
When FOA brought out their pastels range a little while ago and I saw a potential dupe, After Dinner Mint I didn't hesitate to grab it. I wore it on my toes for one day and realised that unfortunately, it looked awful. Absolutely awful.
I don't know whether it is my skintone, my taste in polishes or simply just an ugly polish but I hate it so much. I can't stand the way it looks on me and I am glad I didn't pay $20 for the Essie one. It looks sickly, fluorescent and hideously unnatural...I wouldn't wear this out of the house if you paid me!
Still, I can guarantee that if someone else put this on I wouldn't mind it at all, because it's becoming clear that I am a little crazy in that respect and that blues and green will always look gorgeous on others and absolutely shocking on me!
You hate that?! Before I read, I was going to say it looks absolutely amazing against your skin tone! It looks so lovely! Honestly, I think you have crazy eyes because seriously that looks amazing! Give it another go, because I genuinely believe it looks beautiful! Also, Essie Mint Candy Apple is more sky blue than a mint green so rethink that too! Haha!
ReplyDeleteI also didn't know Face of Australia had a pastel range, I don't really follow their brand so thank you for this! I'm going to try and hunt it down!

Haha, naw thank you! I must have crazy eyes then because I tried and tried but I really cannot bring myself to like it on myself! Haha - clearly I have this all wrong! :)
DeleteNot a problem, glad you have discovered a polish that might look beautiful on you!

Have this colour and love it! This inspires me to pull it out again :)

I am always doing that with other people's posts - forgetting I have all these cool products and remembering to bring them out again because of someone else's post. x
DeleteIt's a shame it didn't work for you. I agree this one's a tricky one to pull off because it almost glows and will draw attention to any redness in the skin as the opposite of the colour spectrum. The trickiest and scariest shades for me are the yellows :(
ReplyDeleteIt really does almost glow, it's quite hard to explain. Oh man, yellows are difficult!

the shade is lovely on ur nails :)
ReplyDeleteThank you - I am trying my best to change my thoughts about it :)

I can't believe you don't like this shade on you! From what I can tell from the photos, it looks lovely against your skintone and doesn't look sickly at all! Hopefully you warm up to it after all these lovely comments you're getting ;) x
ReplyDeleteWhy thank you Dawn! I don't think I have a choice but to reconsider my opinions of this polish after all the praise it has received - I am so surprised!

I LOVE mint polishes but I think green polishes can be a bit hard to work with.
ReplyDeleteShame you don't like this colour though! It looks like a nice colour :)
I hate yellow polishes, I think they just make my nails/fingers look pale and sickly. Idk.
How's the formula of this polish though?
Yellow polishes are super difficult to pull off, but I have seen people do it! The formula is so good - I used three coats to achieve the opacity photographed above but I could have gone without the third. It's a lovely consistency and lasted a reasonable amount of time :)

I honestly don't know what you mean because I think it looks really nice on you!
ReplyDelete:) Thank you!
