Luminesce Daily Moisturising Complex

Skincare products are not my area of expertise, nor have they ever really been a strong interest of mine compared to makeup, however they are probably the most essential part of my routine. There is nothing better than being able to look in the mirror and see a blemish free, relatively evenly toned face that you know won't even need foundation. Being a teenager, my skin is hardly what you would call perfect but most of the time it's pretty darn good all thanks to a ridiculously regimented skincare routine and some brilliant skincare products.

When I was first offered the opportunity to try out some products from the Luminesce range I actually declined. What makes Luminesce stand out from all the other brands is that it incorporates stem cell technology, an area of science that I was very unfamiliar with and quite hesitant to incorporate into my skincare routine. As it is a relatively controversial topic I've decided to talk a little bit about it in this post so that you can make a decision about their products for yourself. I'm no expert in this field but have done everything in my power to provide factual information regarding the science behind it all. If you are interested in this I would recommend that you do your own research further, or if you are an expert then please add some information in the comments!

Basically stem cell technology enhances a naturally occurring process that occurs within the body to help repair and regenerate cells. All cells eventually break down and their replacement is a result of stem cells.

To use this science in skincare, the best and most effective stem cells within the human body are located and extracted from fat layers with a syringe as a combination of fatty tissue and stem cells. The fat cells are then separated from the stem cells and then undergo a centrifuge process. The stem cells are grown in petri dishes with nutrients supplied. During this growth a chemical signal called a Growth Factor is released. This Growth factor is essentially the 'instructions' or the way the cell communicates and is able to repair tissues within the body.

Luminesce uses such growth factors in conjunction with an assortment of other 'supporting' ingredients that nourish and support skin cells. There are no live stem cells within the Luminesce products, however some ingredients are human derived.

This video explains it a little further. Note that the video has been produced by Luminesce and the information I obtained above was my interpretation of what was explained to me when I had queries about the range. There is an abundance of information freely available about stem cell technology supplied by alternate organisations online that you can look at.

So there is a ridiculously basic outline of the science behind the skincare and perhaps you can see why I initially had concerns. I've since concluded that I personally believe it is safe and ethical, hence why I agreed to receive and review some of their products.

Now for the review you were expecting!

First up is the packaging. You can always tell when a product is on the luxurious end of the scale because it just feels expensive! I was thrilled to find that the Luminesce Daily Moisturising Complex had a cool twist out pump, making it both compact and sleek yet still practical. The silver bottle and blue print is simple yet eye catching.

On the bottle it states that the moisturiser has sunscreen within it although nowhere was I able to identify the exact SPF. The formula is non greasy and soaks in easily. This is absolutely perfect for applying prior to your makeup as it leaves your skin feeling lovely and soft without any unpleasant residue. The hydration is gives is excellent, although I would deem it to be insufficient for those with a dry skin type but perfect for those with normal to oily skin.

Apparently the moisturiser targets fine lines and wrinkles which is something I cannot really comment on as I am still just a young one! My primary concerns were hydration, fast absorbing formula and being able to wear it under my daily makeup, all of which were wonderful.

I really like the consistency of the moisturiser, the perfect in-between of not being too thick or too thin. This is in no way greasy or oily which is something very important in my skincare. My only slight issue with this is that it has an unusual fragrance. It is not a scent that I would describe as unpleasant, but it is definitely noticeable and unusual. I've easily gotten used to it after a month or so of use.

As I have only used it for just over a month, I am not really sure about the long lasting impact however I have noticed a slight but significant improvement in my skin. I have had fewer blemishes and the overall skin tone has become more even. I feel as though past marks and scarring have also been reduced.

For $54.95, this is not in any way on the cheaper end of the scale, however the differences between this and the ten dollar moisturisers you can get from Coles are easily noticed. This is a lovely luxurious product and if you are looking for the proposed benefits of stem cell technology then this is an excellent option for you.

Model's Prefer Sweet Shadows Eyeshadow Tin

I have honestly had the greatest luck in the world in the past two months, winning three giveaways! One of them was Amanda's from Thai Tales  where I won the Model's Prefer Sweet Shadows Eyeshadow Tin. I was ridiculously excited about winning this because just look at those gorgeous eyeshadow shades and the incredible packaging they come in! 

As far as I am aware, the Model's Prefer tins are a direct imitation of some eyeshadow tins from Too Faced. I personally love that I can have the opportunity to play around with a more affordable alternative, however I'm not sure Too Faced would be all that thrilled!

When it first arrived and I opened the package up, I literally had to pry it from my mother's hands as she declared that it was "the most beautiful makeup packaging in the entire world." I am inclined to agree with her, because I can't think of anything more adorable than the little tin. I think it is most appealing to younger girls, and I think for someone starting out with makeup this would be a perfect (and cute) array of beginner's shadows. 

I immediately spotted the shades that I new would be my favourites and crossed my fingers that those were the ones that were pigmented. I had read some reviews and was aware that it was a little hit and miss with these shadows, with some being incredibly pigmented and others completely sheer. 

The shades included are as follows:

Innocent: Grey toned lilac shade. Pigmentation: Poor

Lovely: Deep toned true purple. Pigmentation: Good

Sweetened: Mid toned brown with cooler undertones and silver shimmer. Pigmentation: Fair

Graceful: Very, very dark brown (almost black) with a matte finish. Pigmentation: Good

Kisses: Shimmery, champagne white with slight pink undertones. Pigmentation: Excellent (it is SO buttery!)

Cute: Rosy brown/pink shade. Pigmentation: Excellent

Sugared: Light baby pink. Pigmentation: Excellent

Luscious: Warm medium brown. Pigmentation: Excellent

Bottom Row

Adorable: Light brown/grey shade. Pigmentation: Terrible

Angelic: Pure shimmery white. Pigmentation: Excellent

Precious: Coppery orange gold. Pigmentation: Excellent

Enchanting: Matte black. Pigmentation: Fair (very chalky)

As you can see, there was quite a variety of quality between each of the shades. Adorable was completely hopeless and that swatch (which you can barely see) was three built up attempts! Other shades, like Precious and Kisses were incredibly buttery and pigmented. Luckily for me, my most favourite shades were the best pigmentation!

I created an eyeshadow look using five of the shadows and was absolutely thrilled with the outcome.

1. 'Kisses' was applied over the entire lid.
2. 'Precious' was applied over the centre third of the eyelid.
3. 'Luscious' was used in the outer corner and crease
4. 'Angelic' was applied as an inner corner highlight
5. 'Lovely' was used as a lower lashline eyeliner for a hint of colour

I think the blend of white, gold and purple looks stunning and shows just how pigmented those particular shades are!

I do notice fallout with some of the shades, particularly the darker shadows, which is easily removed by brushing it away.

Not only were eyeshadows included in the tin, but an eye primer and clear brow gel too. I have had very little experience with eye primers (by that I mean no experience) and therefore don't feel as though I can make any real judgement about it. I found it to be a strange texture, quite tacky at first but then rather velvety once it had settled. It evened out the skin tone but I'm not sure I would bother using it regularly.

I feel indifferent about the brow gel - I will get use out of it but I wouldn't buy it on its own. It works but it is nothing terribly special.

All up, I am so pleased with this palette and can see myself experimenting a lot with it in the future. I've decided that Precious is just the most beautiful shade ever and I think that will be the one I hit pan on first!

I give this 6 out of 10 (because even though there are some shades I love, others are hopeless and you have no guarantee of the quality!)

Essence Ticket to Paradise Shimmer Powder in Tropical Heat

I have a real problem resisting Essence's limited edition products. Though their permanent range is pretty good, their limited edition ranges are just that whole lot better and the fact that I know within weeks they will be gone forever makes me buy things I don't really need. I still long for that blush they brought out in their Cherry Blossom collection that I never picked up...Seriously though, who could blame me for this purchase - it is so darn gorgeous!

In my opinion, highlighters are those products that always get forgotten in a makeup routine despite that they are perhaps the most beautiful makeup products of all. A bit of golden shimmer on the cheekbones can honestly make the world of difference yet I will be the first to admit that I simply forget to put some on or just don't have time to make the effort. I've been wearing it a lot more regularly since buying this wonderful highlighter though!

The most obvious aspect of this product is the stunning flowery imprint in the pan. Following the 'Ticket to Paradise' theme, it was basically the print alone that convinced me I had to own it. The remaining packaging is Essence's standard practical but moderately poor quality clear lid and black base. It's not awful but it's not top of the range either.

It's a strong golden toned shade, leaning much more on the orange gold spectrum than the white gold one. It's quite pigmented but can be used lightly if desired, or built up to be quite strong. I personally like it quite subtle, especially as it does have that deeper golden tone, but that is because my skin is so pale. I find warmer highlighters to be much more versatile and user friendly compared to cooler silver based ones, but that may be down to my colouring and overall makeup preferences (I feel the same way about eyeshadows too).

I actually like using this as an eyeshadow, or even as an inner corner highlight because it is subtle but still enough to really glow on the skin.

This sits well on the skin and blends out well. It lasts almost an entire day, though not if it is particularly hot or I'm sweating more than usual! I like to wear this in the summer months and my Essence Twilight Breaking Dawn Highlighter in the cooler months because I feel a deeper more golden tone is more suitable for summer, and a lighter white gold better for winter.

I'm really pleased I purchased this, because I know it would have been one of those products I would have regretted not buying! I can't recall exactly how much this cost, but I believe it would have been $5 or $6 which is super affordable.

I really like this product and give it 8/10.

MAC lipstick in Creme Cup

Let me tell you a crazy story. There once was a little 14 year old girl who started what would eventually be the greatest accident in her life - a beauty blog. She blogged for years, loving every second of creating, publishing and interacting with other bloggers and was completely content reading and writing in her little corner of the internet. Then one day, for her birthday, she received a MAC lipstick in the mail from a beautiful fellow beauty blogger and almost lost the plot with happiness and gratitude for the overwhelming kindness she had been the recipient of. Also, how did that blogger know that it was Creme cup that she had drooled about her entire life?!

Yep, that little girl was me and I still can't believe that it happened. You may be thinking that I've made a bit of a big deal about this - I mean, it's a lipstick for goodness sake- but I am so grateful for every single person in the blogging world who has left a little message or read my posts and made my day just that little bit better (and seriously, for a kid whose sole income is the twenty bucks she receives at Christmas, a MAC lipstick is kind of a big deal).


This is it guys, the lipsticks above all lipsticks. I may be a little biased because its my first MAC lipstick and I've practically wanted one since I was born, but it has several factors that allow it to deserve that title. I knew there had to be a reason every girl worth her weight in eyeshadow shouted praises from the rooftops about MAC.

It's basically perfection. Creamy, vanilla scented, glossy lipstick perfection. As for the shade, don't even get me started on how beautiful it is (although sadly I will admit it won't suit everyone and once in a blue moon can be a little challenging to work with).

I've worn this non stop since receiving it and it is just the most beautiful all round nude. It's the ideal balance of pink and brown, a your lips but better shade if I ever saw one. It can be ever so slightly on the borderline too pale side, however this is only evident when I'm trying to (unsuccessfully) make a foundation that is a shade too dark for me work.

This looks absolutely gorgeous on the lips, glossy and creamy, although if you have excessively dry lips (which I personally do get from time to time) it can accentuate those flaky areas. This is easily solved by a quite application of a lip scrub and lip balm before use.

I've not yet decided what I think about the packaging. I think I love it because it is the iconic MAC lipstick packaging, although I can most definitely recognise the common item it is believed to resemble! Nevertheless, lady-product-lookalike or not, the gritty charcoal black and silver tube is flawless and you can just tell it's fabulous simply from looking at it!

This is not extraordinarily long wearing but satisfactory in my opinion. As it is a cremesheen finish it does wear off a little quicker than the other finishes MAC has to offer, but it doesn't bother me a great deal.

This incredible addition to my collection has provided fuel to a fire, I can already tell. I now have lists of MAC shades that I am determined to pick up, ranging from lipsticks, blushes and eyeshadows. Too bad my wallet has lost a bit of weight over the holidays and seems to have gone on strike!

I love this gorgeous lipstick and can't wait to pick up some more. Thank you, dear gift giver, and thank you to everyone who reads my little blog!

Face of Australia Glossy Lip Crayon in Peach Parfait

In my eyes, FOA never steps a foot wrong. I've come to realise that I am painfully loyal to my favourite brands, and it is no exception with FOA, but how could I think anything bad about the brand when they introduced me to the love of my life, lip crayons. The trio of crayons in a natural pink, cherry red and neutral brown were (and still are) absolute staples in my makeup routine, but I often found myself hoping for a coral kind of colour to make its way onto the scene because there really was a gap that needed to be filled.

Well, what do you know, after months and months of waiting FOA read my mind and came out with a whole heap of new lip crayon shades that you could purchase individually, the most appealing of which...a gorgeous tangerine shade. I knew it was going to happen, after Face of Australia is my favourite makeup brand for a reason. I knew it would only be a matter of time before they introduced some lip crayons to their permanent range. On sale for $5 I snapped up Peach Parfait, a gorgeous peachy orange shade, and haven't looked back since.

I was thrilled to see that Face of Australia seemed to keep the old formula, because they hit the nail on the head the first time. I love my Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm stains (I promise I will shut up about them from now on!) for their incredible staining and lasting power, but sometimes it is nice to have a product that wears off within a couple of hours because it allows you to wear multiple lip products in one day (is this something normal people do, or just crazy beauty bloggers?). It still has its sweet, almost cupcake kind of smell and is soft and creamy.

The packaging is very much the same as the originals, with the colour of the crayon corresponding to the shade (making it so much easier to find the shade you are looking for). They still have their chunky, child like nature which I love although my only gripe about the packaging is that you have to be careful when replacing the cap otherwise you clip the edge of the product.

So what about the shade? It's perfect. Honestly it's the perfect balance of not too pigmented and not too sheer, a stunning peachy tangerine shade that I think anyone could pull off even if they were a little afraid of bright orange lips. It's slightly darker and a little less neon than Revlon's Rendezvous. But then we struck trouble. Slight silver shimmer.

Really FOA? We were so close to tangerine perfection and then you just had to go in and give it a pearly finish. I know, I know, it's really not that bad and I'm sure that many people will be glad about this inclusion, but I can't help but feel that we were so very close to the ideal shade. Oh well, I'm sure I'll get used to it. You can't have perfection all the time.

For the price, formulation and overall quality of this product, I am impressed. Sure, a bit of shimmer may have pushed the overall score from a ten down to a nine, but it's still up there as a favourite.

Revlon Lip Butter in Wild Watermelon

I truly thought my Revlon Lip Butter collection was complete at a grand total of 4 shades, but then this happened: I was wandering through Kmart in what looked like a post apocalyptic scene from a scary movie. Every makeup stand had been completely cleared, only mashed lipsticks and smears of eyeshadow spread across the plastic holders. I have no idea why it was like this - obviously Kmart is doing some kind of cosmetics revamp - but I was astonished to find an actual product, let alone one that was intact and sealed, worthy of actually purchasing. Of course it was a lip product, my absolute weakness when it comes to makeup, and even more exciting was that it was a Revlon lip butter in a stunning shade for a mere $10. I couldn't walk by such an amazing offer, and as a result my Revlon lip butter collection has expanded to 5.

Since they first came out I have wanted the shade Candy Apple, and although this isn't that shade exactly, Wild Watermelon is a stunning red that may even be better than what I originally wanted. It is a beautiful warm toned red with the perfect balance of pink and orange mixed in. I personally find it a really easy red to pull off, although I am becoming more confident with a red lip these days. I am really pleased that unlike some of the shades, Wild Watermelon contains no shimmer but is just a pure glossy red. One great thing about the Revlon lip butters is that they are so buildable, and can be applied in a sheer manner if desired or built up if you want a stronger look.

As is the case with all of the shades in the range, this is initially quite moisturising but after extending wear time can become a little drying. This is easily resolved with a quick application of lip balm over the top. I find that these don't wear terribly well when eating and drinking - they are not a stain and do rub off fairly easily. However, if you aren't munching away on lunch then these will last a couple of hours until you need to reapply again. 

One issue that I had with this shade that I didn't experience with the others was that the colour in the centre of my lips wore off before the colour around the edges, leaving me with a ring around my lips. It appeared as though I had drawn around the edge of my mouth with a red lipliner and had failed to shade the rest of my lips in! As you can imagine, I don't love this look so I am careful to make sure to reapply frequently when I wear this shade to avoid that from happening!

I've said it before but I'll say it again - I actually really like the packaging of these products. I love that the colour of the plastic case is the same as the lipstick because you can easily identify which colour you are looking for. The quilted pattern gives a really nice touch and the silver bullet makes it look quite classy. Revlon rarely goes wrong with their lip products.

I am really glad that I stumbled across this gorgeous shade, and I've been wearing it regularly since I purchased it. I probably wouldn't pay full price for it out of principle (it annoys me so much that we have so pay so much more in Australia) but at $10 it was completely worth it.

Along with Berry Smoothie, this is my favourite shade from the range and I know it will get a lot of wear! I give this 8 out of 10.

OOTD - Seeing spots

I recently discovered that I am definitely not a fashion blogger. Do you have any idea just how hard it is to make an OOTD post? I'm telling you, it's darn near impossible.

First you have to come up with an outfit that is suitably fashionable, not too bland but something you wouldn't be embarrassed to be seen wearing in public. For this I chose to incorporate my red skater dress that I managed to get free from the Op-shop (yep, it cost me nothing). Let's just say, it's rather, uh, snug up top so in order to wear it without looking like...well you can imagine what it looks like...I wore a sheer spotted collared shirt from Cotton On that hadn't been getting much love. The result was, in my humble opinion, pretty darn cool. Paired with black stockings, a pair of boots and a blag handbag I think it looks very put together.




















Next you have to find a place to take your photos. It needs to be moderately interesting but not too distracting. It's nice if the colour scheme adds to the outfit or if it related to the outfit somehow. Basically, it's really challenging finding somewhere to take your photos.

You then need a photographer. For me I had no choice but to rope my little brother in, which really wasn't ideal for either of us. He was in such a hurry to get it over and done with that we had more horrendous photos than tolerable ones. Half of them cut my legs off, were angled strangely, blurred or too dark. He was bored after the first three photos and spent the entire time making fun of how I looked. I was adament that I had to have the perfect shot and kept harassing him about it. Working with a photographer who didn't want to be there was hard. 

So you've managed to get the outfit, the venue and the photographer, now it's time to actually take the photos. Let me tell you, your poses may look cool in a photo but you just look ridiculous in real life. People stare and look at you like you are insane and in the end I spent more time trying not to look suspicious as I stood amongst the weeds in a posh little outfit while my brother yelled about how much longer it was going to take. Oh my gosh.

Last of all is the editing and uploading process whereby you have to find the good shots amongst literally hundreds of terrible ones. You have to adjust the colours if need be, crop them and add them to your post. It is a very time consuming process.

So there you have it, my little taste of the fashion blogger world has shown me that an OOTD post is much harder than it looks, and a simple outfit probably has hours worth of effort behind it!

I hope you like this OOTD, I'll do my very best to continue making them but at this rate it's unlikely I'll post more than one a year!

Things that annoy me about Blogger

I love having a blog, I couldn't recommend the whole concept of blogging to another person enough. I've used Blogger as a platform for my blog since I first created it and I have absolutely no intention of changing it any time soon however there are a couple of things that really, really annoy me.

1. It is almost impossible to unfollow a blog
So I get that there is a limit of 300 blogs that you can follow. That's reasonable. I'm constantly finding new blogs that I want to follow, being told I've hit my limit and therefore having to unfollow an old blog. No problem, I'm happy to do that since bloggers give up on their blogs all the time and I end up following someone who hasn't posted in 7 months. Here's the issue: it is so hard to actually unfollow it. For starters you have to go onto their blog and 'sign in' as a follower. If they don't have the widget that shows who is following them, you can't do it at all (which, by the way, is why I've kept the widget. I want you to have the opportunity to unfollow me if you start to find that you no longer like my blog without having to sacrifice your first born child). What about if that blog has been deleted?! If it's been deleted there is no point me following it because there will never be new posts, but there is literally no way for me to get rid of it from my feed. If they do have the widget, you then sign in, go to the site settings, click unfollow, confirm unfollow, wait for it to disappear off your feed and then add the new blog. Ugh, that is such a lengthy process.

Now I know that there is an alternative way where you click the little settings image on your dashboard, but in my personal experience it has never ever managed to successfully load the blogs I'm following. Every time I try that it informs me that there is a problem and that I should try again later.

It should not be that hard to unfollow a flipping blog.

2. The save button on a post is wayyy too close to the publish button
You've experienced the times where you see a post come up on your dashboard, click on it, only to find that "this post does not exist." This is because a blogger has accidentally clicked publish before they were ready to and have then proceeded to delete it, yet it still comes up on your feed. This used to happen to me all the time and it's all down to the fact that the publish button is far to close to the save one. All that would have to change is the publish button being located on the left of the post with the other three remaining where they currently are. It would solve all our problems.

3. If you publish comments without reviewing them first, you don't get notified about them
Back when I first started I set my comments so that they had to be moderated before they were published on my blog. When I went on holidays for longer periods of time I would change the settings so that they would be published immediately and eventually I just left it like that permanently. I love this set up and think it allows for more discussion between bloggers when you don't have to wait days for your comment to show up, but as the owner of the blog I hate that it doesn't let me know that someone has commented. I have to remember to go into my comments and check to see if any have been left, unlike before when a little number would be presented on my dashboard letting me know how many had to be moderated.

So Blogger, if you are listening, please fulfill my three wishes and make blogging a more pleasant experience for all of use. Just these three little improvements and it would be perfect!

The Lipstick Tag

I was tagged by Amanda from Thai Tales and Basmah from Lacee & Lattes to do the highly popular (and super fun to read) Lipstick Tag. Being the avid lip product lover that I am, I personally can't think of a more suitable tag for me to do.

The Questions

1. How many lipsticks do you own?
I have 28 technical lipsticks (balms, stains, crayons, creams, glosses, and butters not included!) and 93 lip products. Oh God.


2. What was the first lipstick you owned?
I'm not 100% sure if my memory is correct, but I believe it is a Maybelline Moisture Extreme Lipstick in Metallic Mauve, which I actually still own but would never wear in a million years. It is this awful, painfully frosty pink that I used to think was the bees knees. Back in the day I wrote a cringe worthy review on it...read it if you dare.

3. What is your favourite lipstick brand?
When it comes to lipsticks I've not yet found my favourite brand, but for overall lip products Revlon absolutely smashes it out of the park.

4. What is your most worn lipstick?
To date, my most worn lipstick is actually probably the cheapest one I own, and that is an Essence lipstick in All About Cupcake. I find that this is the most incredibly perfect shade with a level of pigmentation that is just right. I love it so much and it is so darn cheap.

5. What is your favourite finish?
I love creamy lipsticks, the ones that you can tell are moisturising and comfortable to wear simply by looking at them!

6. What was the last lipstick you bought?
I myself didn't buy it, but the last lipstick I received was MAC's Creme Cup as a birthday gift from a beautiful blogger. It's my first ever MAC lipstick, one that I have practically wanted since I was born and her kindness literally blew me away. I feel like a real beauty blogger/lipstick fiend now that I own a MAC lipstick!

7. How many lip products do you currently have in your bag?

8. What is your favourite red lip colour?
My favourite Red lip colour is Revlon's Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in Romantic, and my favourite red lipstick is the Revlon Colour Stay Ultimate Suede lipstick in Finale.

9. How do you store your lipsticks?
I store some of them in the acrylic lipstick holders that everyone seems to have, and the rest in buckets/mugs (in the same way that you would store makeup brushes).

10. Which lipsticks are you currently lusting after?
Which lipsticks aren't I currently lusting after?! I definitely have my eyes on more MAC lipsticks after having had my first taste of them. I couldn't narrow down the shades I have my eye on, so here they all are: Lovelorn, Crosswires, Coral Bliss, Please me, Watch me Simmer and Russian Red!
