Collective haul - Face of Australia, Essie, OPI and more

Over the last couple of month I've managed to acquire some wonderful stuff for some ridiculously good prices so I thought I'd share my bargains with you all...

Kmart has actually been my best friend in the beauty department lately. I purchased the Nivea Lip
Butter in Caramel Cream (and oh my gosh it smells divine!) for only two dollars. They're obviously no longer stocking Face of Australia which is a major disappointment however it did mean I was able to pick up three of their lipsticks, each for four dollars. I grabbed some seriously beautiful shades, my favourite being Forbidden Fruit and the other two including Power Surge and Pink Champagne.

When Priceline had their 40% off sale I actually didn't go too crazy but I did get two Australis products - an Australis concealer which I am so freaking disappointed with, and the brow tint which thankfully makes up for the crappy concealer. If any of you have actually tried the concealer let me know because it's probably one of the worst I've ever come across...

Essie has captured my heart with its amazing colour range and incredible formula so I was tempted with this beauty, Limo-scene. I adore the colour (which is why it made it into my March favourites) but sadly, as is often the case with white polishes, the formula isn't great.

Now that Priceline is stocking OPI polishes I've found myself souring the bins for good bargains. A lot of the shades they have a pretty unappealing but the shade Nomad's dream caught my eye. I don't usually go for the frosty kinds of polishes but this one is damn gorgeous. I also grabbed some hairspray, and the reason it is so exciting is because I've never owned hairspray in my whole life...I know right!

My favourite concealer is the Face of Australia stick concealer in natural so I had to repurchase it recently when I ran out, and while I was there I grabbed their illuminating stick in When in Rome which I highly recommend you look into because it's super pretty.

There is a Chemist's Warehouse near me and they always have really good deals, so I couldn't resist when I saw the highly raved about Rimmel Match Perfection Foundation in my shade for only $9. I've been really impressed with it so far.

Of course, Priceline is always calling my name with good sales and in one of the million occasions that I set foot in the store, I managed to come out with a Models Prefer Lip Crayon in the shade Raspberry Ripple and an Essence lipstick in the shade Love Me. I'd never taken any notice of the Models Prefer lip crayons but for $2 it was a worthwhile purchase.

Last but not least is a totally unexpected purchase, a Sportsgirl lipstick. I have never ever owned any Sportsgirl makeup but have seen fairly positive reviews about their stuff. I was in Sportsgirl and I think something must have been mislabelled because I purchased their lipstick in the shade Doll Face for $0.98 and I really like the bold shade!

L-R: Raspberry Ripple, Forbidden Fruit, Power Surge, Pink Champagne, Doll Face, Love me
So there you have it, my recent additions to my beauty stash. Let me know if there are any products in particular that you would like to see a review on. I've been really slack with my posting but I promise I'll try my best to write about anything you're particularly interested in!

The Lipstick Tag

I was tagged by Amanda from Thai Tales and Basmah from Lacee & Lattes to do the highly popular (and super fun to read) Lipstick Tag. Being the avid lip product lover that I am, I personally can't think of a more suitable tag for me to do.

The Questions

1. How many lipsticks do you own?
I have 28 technical lipsticks (balms, stains, crayons, creams, glosses, and butters not included!) and 93 lip products. Oh God.

2. What was the first lipstick you owned?
I'm not 100% sure if my memory is correct, but I believe it is a Maybelline Moisture Extreme Lipstick in Metallic Mauve, which I actually still own but would never wear in a million years. It is this awful, painfully frosty pink that I used to think was the bees knees. Back in the day I wrote a cringe worthy review on it...read it if you dare.

3. What is your favourite lipstick brand?
When it comes to lipsticks I've not yet found my favourite brand, but for overall lip products Revlon absolutely smashes it out of the park.

4. What is your most worn lipstick?
To date, my most worn lipstick is actually probably the cheapest one I own, and that is an Essence lipstick in All About Cupcake. I find that this is the most incredibly perfect shade with a level of pigmentation that is just right. I love it so much and it is so darn cheap.

5. What is your favourite finish?
I love creamy lipsticks, the ones that you can tell are moisturising and comfortable to wear simply by looking at them!

6. What was the last lipstick you bought?
I myself didn't buy it, but the last lipstick I received was MAC's Creme Cup as a birthday gift from a beautiful blogger. It's my first ever MAC lipstick, one that I have practically wanted since I was born and her kindness literally blew me away. I feel like a real beauty blogger/lipstick fiend now that I own a MAC lipstick!

7. How many lip products do you currently have in your bag?
I included both my handbag and my school bag and here is what I found...

- Nivea Fruity Shine Lip Balm in Guava
- Maybelline Baby Lips in Anti Oxidant Berry
- Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in Rendeazvous
- Essence lipstick in All About Cupcake
- Nivea Lip Butter in Vanilla and Macadamia

No wonder I'm always losing lip products, I'm carrying so many around!

8. What is your favourite red lip colour?
My favourite Red lip colour is Revlon's Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in Romantic, and my favourite red lipstick is the Revlon Colour Stay Ultimate Suede lipstick in Finale.

9. How do you store your lipsticks?
I store some of them in the acrylic lipstick holders that everyone seems to have, and the rest in buckets/mugs (in the same way that you would store makeup brushes).

10. Which lipsticks are you currently lusting after?
Which lipsticks aren't I currently lusting after?! I definitely have my eyes on more MAC lipsticks after having had my first taste of them. I couldn't narrow down the shades I have my eye on, so here they all are: Lovelorn, Crosswires, Coral Bliss, Please me, Watch me Simmer and Russian Red!

Thanks for tagging me ladies, I had a lovely time answering these questions. It's also inspired me to wear some of my less popular lip products too! I tag Sheri from Behind the Frames, Mishelle from Mishelle's Sleepy Time and Jasmine from Sweetaholic beauty.

Nivea Lip Butter in Vanilla and Macadamia

I don't understand how I manage to acquire so many lip products. Honestly, it's getting ridiculous. My makeup drawers are literally overflowing with lipsticks and lip balms and lip crayons, and now lip butters. I can't help it, of all the types of makeup it is the lip products that draw me in the most, and when something is on sale there is no hope for me.

Priceline was getting rid of the widely spoken about Nivea Lip Butters for $3.40 instead of the usual price of $5.69 when I popped in the other day and so I couldn't pass on the opportunity to try them out. Blaming it on the need for a new product to review on my blog (which I totally don't, I have so many products I could review) I was happy to grab the Vanilla and Macadamia flavour, having read in reviews that it was more appealing than its Caramel cousin. I still don't know what the caramel flavour is like, but Vanilla and Macadamia is the most gorgeous balance of rich vanilla and nutty scent. I seriously just want to eat it.

Though it comes in the most inconvenient, unhygienic and impractical packaging it possibly could, who could ignore the adorable little tin? I hate the fact that every time I want to apply it I'm going to have to shove my grubby little fingers into a pot housing an ever growing bacteria culture, but despite this I still purchased it because it is just so darn cute.

Speaking of packaging, I think Nivea chose a really clean and effective design. I like that if you own multiple shades it is easy to identify which flavour it is from the packaging which has a different photograph according to the flavour. The tin is compact and sleek, suitable for carrying around. I expect when I go back to school this will live in my pencil case.

When it comes down to the product itself...well, it's a little disappointing. To be honest, after having read so many raving reviews about it I had very high hopes and it really wasn't as life changing as I'd imagined. Don't get me wrong, it is exactly as silky smooth as I'd read about and has the incredibly soft formula that I had hoped for it's just I don't find it to be as comfortable to wear as I'd imagined.

It's the same with its moisturising properties. I had it ingrained in my head that it was the most moisturising balm in the world that would give the most smooth and supple lips ever, and instead it's just okay. I feel that it leaves a slight film over the lips rather than soaking in completely. This is honestly not an issue as it is common with most products and it is still an effective lip balm, it's just that as I mentioned, I thought this was going to be magical.

This does leave a slight white cast on the lips, but nothing too noticeable. It gives quite a glossy finish and I imagine it would be the ideal product to use if you wish to sheer down an intense lipstick.

Don't get me wrong, this is not a bad product by any means. It's good, it is, it's just not fabulous. I'll take it to school, keep it in my pencil case and fend off the grubby hands of several girls desperate for a lip balm because they've forgotten to bring their own. It smells great and looks cute, two positive properties, it's just nothing incredible.

I give this 7 out of 10.

Monthly Favourites - July

July was an absolute joke of a month for makeup, because I didn't wear a scrap! I spent the first two weeks in Cambodia, bare faced and absolutely loving it, and in the second two weeks I still wore no makeup in order to clear my blocked pores from the abundance of sunscreen and insect repellent it had been subject to! Skincare, the aspect of beauty I had never really cared for, suddenly became my best friend. I have cheated a lot to fit all the categories for this month!

Face: I did a review on the magic of this scary looking cleanser, the Clean and Clear Morning burst skin brightening facial cleanser. It smells amazing, works like a charm and I used this religiously every day this month.

Lips: This product, Nivea's Fruity Shine Pink Guava lip balm, I used all the time. It went everywhere with me because I just love the smell, moisture it gives and slight pink tint. Perfect!

Eyes: This is so not an eyes product, but I did use the Lucas Papaw ointment once on my eyelid when I got an insect bite on it, does that count? An Australian cult product, I also took this everywhere I went in Cambodia and it is good stuff!

Nails: The Swisse hand cream with Vitamin F and Pomegranate isn't really a nails product either, but it goes on your hands so it is basically the same...right?! I haven't completed a review on this yet because I just haven't had the time, but I really like this! I know that many beauty bloggers get samples of this in their beauty box subscriptions, and honestly - use it! It smells like lemonade and does such a good job. I am a huge fan.

Other: My last favourite is the I Love...Mango and Papaya Body Butter. I am a little biased because my Mum gave this to me upon returning from Cambodia. I really didn't want to be home and was desperate to go back, and when I smelled this it was exactly like all the incredible fruit drinks that we had so this reminds me of Cambodia every time I use it! Even if there are no memories attached to this product, it smells absolutely wonderful and feels lovely on the skin.

As you can see, makeup just wasn't something I wore at all this month! I hadn't realised this until I wrote this post but 4/5 of this month's products have a really strong, fruity scent! Clearly I like my smelly products!

I think special mention also needs to go to the B.liv Off with those heads blackhead clearing gel, the Kiehl's Ultra Facial Cream, and the Formula 10.0.6 Deep Down Detox Mask which have also saved my skin's life.

Are you a fan of any of these products? Know of any fruity smelling products I need to get my hands on?

Most Worn Things for Summer TAG

I saw this TAG on Cherie's blog and whilst I was reading it decided I had to do it too. I worked out well then, when I saw that she had tagged me! Thank you Cherie!

Basically it is a collection of your most worn things for the summer (which I am terribly sad has come to an end).

1. Nail polish
Though I don't wear nail polish a whole lot, I think my most worn nail polish for this summer was any of my favourite reds, like my polishes from Essence, Innoxa or Ulta.

2. Hair Product
Though I am painfully lazy when it comes to my hair (and unfortunately I am finally starting to see the results) I do use at least one product on my hair - the Salon Confidential Repair Ends Mender, which prevents and heals split ends.

3. Bag
This was so easy as I use the same bag all the time, just my regular, boring, brown 'satchel' style bag with buckles. I also loved my $15 purse, the greatest buy I have had in a long time!

4. Shoes
Though they look a little wintery, my most worn shoes would have to be my black flats from Rubi shoes, with the little bows on them. I wore them so much that the soles fell off but I had a backup anyway!

5. Clothing item
This is a tricky one, but I guess it would have to go to denim shorts in general, which I wore to death!

6. Accessory
I don't wear a lot of jewellery - not because I don't want to but because by the time I have figured out my clothes and makeup I just forget to put on jewellery! I do, however, always remember to put on my favourite ring.

7. Foundation
In summer I like BB creams and tinted moisturisers more than foundations. Subsequently, my most used foundation was the Garnier BB cream. I don't love it (I find it really quite greasy) but it does the job.

8. Bronzer/Blush
I used blush more than I did bronzer (strangely) and I continually turned to my Bourjois Blush in Rose Frisson.

9. Lip product
As lip products are my absolute favourite, I use so many. It was really tough to pick my most used lip product but in the end I realised that my most travelled was my Nivea Fruity Lip Balm in Guava. Gorgeous!

10. Mascara
Unlike my most used lip product, this was a no brainer - my Covergirl Lashblast Length Mascara in waterproof was my one and only choice. Occasionally I would change it up with my Avon daring curves one, but because it was not waterproof it didn't tick all the boxes for me.

11. Eyeshadow
I stuck to neutrals all summer (of course) but I changed which palette they were from. I explored an Essence quad, Australis palette, Maybelline Quad and Essence eye souffle but in the end it was a Bloom eyeshadow duo that I used most, though only the bone/champagne shade.

12. Fragrance
Of course, my Marc Jacobs Daisy Eau So Fresh. Incredible.

Top 3 Tuesday - Lipbalm

Lipbalms are the first makeup products that I got into and they are still up there in my favourites. I love lipbalms for many reasons, mainly because they are so pretty, practical, smell amazing and can be carried around everywhere I go. They are cheap, fun to collect and there are soooo many affordable balms out there you can go crazy! Choosing my Top 3 lipbalms for this week (only 3!) was tricky, but I got there in the end.

1. Maybelline Baby Lips Limited NY Fashion Edition, Protecting Berry
This is my most popular post of all time (by a long shot) and although it isn't the greatest of my reviews, the product certainly deserves top spot. This balm (as is the case with all the Maybelline Baby Lips) is moisturising, smells amazing and comes in the most adorable packaging. Whilst this particular one is no longer available, it is the same flavour (well, scent really) as the Anti-Oxidant Berry one, which is also incredible.

2. Nivea Lip Care Fruity Shine - Pink Guava
There was a reason that this was the first post I ever wrote - this product is brilliant. It is so moisturising, I love the wind up nature of the packaging and the beautiful pink tint is just lovely. The smell is also pretty nice too. This is one balm that I won't be giving up any time soon.

3. Face of Australia Lip Crayon - Cupcake
I would have put this first in my top 3, but I figured that would be pretty unfair considering that it is not marketed as a balm but rather a crayon (a lip balm/lip tint/lip gloss hybrid)! This is the most wearable, beautiful, sheer glossy tint that you will ever find, and for the pack of three it is only $15 - the best value ever! I love this product so much.

Close but not close enough...

For this week's close but not close enough product, we have the Yes to Carrots lipbalm in Berry. These balms are absolutely amazing, and the only reason it found itself in this category as opposed to in my top 3 is because I had completely forgotten about them until I discovered them whilst 'researching' for this post. I am so pleased I have been reminded about these!

If all my makeup disappeared tag

I saw this tag on lovely Gianna's blog, Makeup & Me. When I first read the heading of the post that she had written, I thought it said 'All my Makeup disappeared!" I was shocked and clicked on the link about 100 times, thus resulting in a jammed computer and several 'ding ding ding' noises coming from my computer. Whoops. When it finally untangled itself, I realised that there was an 'if' written in front, which allowed me to relax a little. I mean come on, how bad would it be if all your makeup just disappeared!

Okay, so the tag involves choosing the ten products that you would repurchase IF all your makeup just magically disappeared. I am also going to include a nail polish for the fun of it.

1) BYS Colour changing polish in Salmon
I adore the colour of this polish when it's cool. It's the most amazing mix of pink, red and coral. I could stare at my nails all day when I wear this. It's funny, because reading other people's blogs on the Internet, so many people have said how much they disliked the colour and the fact that it is matte(ish). I must be weird, but I don't care - I am in love with this colour!

2) I would have to keep my Innoxa foundation in Sandstone, because to be honest, it is amazing. I never used to wear foundation, but when I found this super light foundation that covered and evened out skin tone, I fell in love. I will admit that I haven't tried that many foundations in my time, but this is the best one that I have come across.

3) My Covergirl Lash blast water resistant mascara would also be something I would repurchase. It doesn't clump, it really is water resistant and it creates the most beautiful, long, lovely lashes. Ahhhh....

4) My Nivea tinted lipbalm in Guava would definitely be a repurchase. The review I did on it was the first review I ever did (hence why it is so dodgy!!!) and I love it so much. The colour is this subtle pink berry kind of colour, and makes your lips smell gorgeous, look so juicy and feel so moisturised. Amazing!

5) The lipstick I would repurchase is the Loreal lipstick in the shade Pink Fever. If you read the review I wrote, I will never need to explain why I love it ever again! It's just perfect.

Pretty in Pink

6) My BYS blush in the shade Pretty in Pink is something I would also repurchase. Apart from it being so cheap, it is such a nice colour and works with any look I create.

7) My Savvy by DB lip gloss in Pink Diamond I would repurchase. Every girl needs a bit of gloss, and this gloss is just gorgeous. Silky, glossy and smells lovely. Perfect!

8) Maybelline Baby lips in Antioxidant Berry. So cheap. So wonderful.

9) The eyeshadow I would repurchase would be my Maybelline Eyeshadow palette in Autumn Spirit. It has four colours that are so wearable, and I wear them ALL the time.

10) The last product I would repurchase is my Rimmel London Anti-fatigue concealer, because sometimes, well, you need a little extra coverage!

Oh that was so hard. I didn't get to include any of my Rimmel London 60 second polishes, or my new BYS Sassy Salmon lipstick, or my other Savvy lipgloss. That was near impossible, that tag!

Nivea - Light Kiss

I haven't posted in days (yet it feels like months!) and I have missed it so much!

This is such a bizarre product, I don't even know how to explain it but I'm going to try anyway. It is advertised as being "surprising light care for beautiful silky lips, with lotus and almond."

Okay, it has this foamy, mousse, watery kind of texture yet little gritty bits are present in it. I'm not sure if the gritty bits are intentional or whether something just went wrong, but whatever it is, it's very weird. When you apply it to your lips it's cooling and refreshing (menthol like) with little lumpy bits. Seconds later it has all soaked in and you can't feel anything - even the gritty bits are gone. Gosh it's weird. The cooling sensation lasts about ten seconds. It's feel watery yet dry at the same time...I must be making you all utterly confused. It does feel silky. Seriously, I cannot explain it!

It has a kind of pearly sheen, bordering on leaving a little hint of white residue. People who have dark lips will find it to be white at first, but it turns out alright after a little bit. Those whose lips are naturally light may find that this makes them look washed out.

I did get this product for less than half the price that all the others cost, and now I can understand why. It's just so...odd!

It has a smell that is kind of like vanilla ice-cream, soap and a slight hint of chemicals. I do like it, it has a sweet smell which is lovely.

A review I read suggested to use it as a lip primer - I did and it was very good. It was a nice base. I don't know if I was imagining it but it felt as though my lips were a lot silkier with this as a primer.

I wouldn't recommend this product for someone who has chapped lips and is looking to fix them, but as a lip primer and a base for lip glosses or lip sticks, I would say it is a worthwhile product to have (if you don't have a lip primer). I give this product 5 out of 10.

Nivea Lip Care - Sun Protect SPF 30+

This lipbalm was definitely not my favourite. Compared to the other lipbalms from the range (that might I add, I love) this one was dry, difficult to apply, left a white film of my lips and did not feel moisturising at all. Disappointing.

I has this chemical, sunblock kind of smell that really isn't all that appealing. It has a kind of waxy feel on your lips that is really off putting and I ended up not using it. Not good when the purpose of it is to protect you from getting sunburned lips. It also leaves a pale yellow/white film across your lips so you have to use another coloured gloss over the top of it anyway. I just found it quite pointless.

When I did wear it, it really did protect my lips from the sun, and whilst it didn't feel all that moisturising at the time, I must admit my lips were feeling pretty good after a long day at the beach. For someone who does full on outdoor sporting activities, you could be pretty confident it would do a good job protecting you...that is, if you can put up with it feeling waxy.

All up I would give it a 5 out of 10, because it really does protect but it's not much good for anything else.

Nivea Lip Care - Pearl and Shine

This lip balm is an interesting one...
When you apply, it glides on quite smoothly, however it catches in any creases in your lips and builds up. Because of this, you end up with very uneven colour across your lips. The colour is also quite pale, so if too much builds up it just looks like you have white blobs spotted across your lips. If you smush your lips around, eventually it will spread out, however if you're like me, you just expect it to go on nicely in the first place.
The best way to solve this problem is to apply a light lip balm beforehand, so that it fills up the little creases and allows the 'Pearl and Shine' to work its magic properly.

When given the chance, it really is quite magical, and you end up with lovely, shimmery pink lips. On some people the colour can be a little too pale for their liking, however I didn't have a problem with it.

It can seem to be quite drying on your lips at times, so if you are looking for a lip balm for moisture, this wouldn't be your best choice, however I do think it gives some kind of moisture.

I think you would want to treat this one as more of a lipstick (for colour) rather than as a lip balm (for moisture)

I would give it 6/7 out of 10.

Nivea Lip care - Fruity Shine Strawberry

Fruity Shine Strawberry did come as a bit of a disappointment, considering how much I love the Nivea Lip care range. Why?

Once again I could ramble on about how much I love the packaging because of its size, shape, colours and patterns, but no doubt you would get bored and politely ask me to move on. So I will.

It goes on nicely enough - it glides across your lips and feels all glossy and moisturising, but the colour is just a bit too much. Sure, I expected it to have a red tint to it, but on my lips it just looks like a three year old has been playing around with the dodgy makeup from the 2 dollar shop. It just doesn't look right. You also can't reapply it throughout the day because reapplying enhances the 2 dollar shop look, and you end up with unusually fluorescent, red coloured lips. Once you have applied it once, you have to cross your fingers and hope it stays on all day, because if you have dry lips like me, when you don't reapply you end up with bright red tinted flakes of skin peeling off your lips. Gross.
Saying all this, the smell is great, and I would buy it just to have the scent. It really only is the colour that puts me off - the texture is great.

I wouldn't use it everyday because the red colour is just too bright, but it would be okay if you were going out somewhere special. All up I would give it 7 out of 10.

Nivea Lip Care - Natural Volume Lipgloss

An SPF of 30, a lovely colour and cheap as can be. I really like Nivea's natural volume lipgloss.

When you hear of plumping glosses, you expect them to burn your lips accompanied by severe swelling and unneccesary pain. Not this gloss. I did not have to go through any kind of pain to get great lips. Win!

The colour is a pretty pinky/peachy colour, but depending on your natural lip colour it can appear differently on different people's lips. The size of the tube is nice and little so you can carry it around fairly easily to touch up during the day. It is slightly sticky, but I didn't find it to be too much of a problem. It wasn't overly plumping, in that I didn't really notice that I had bigger lips, however they certainly looked pretty.

Friends of mine commented on how they loved the smell, however I didn't take to it all that much. Either I got a dodgy one, or they have funny ideas about what smells good.

I did like this gloss, however I feel the reason I would buy it is because of it's colour and shimmer rather than because it makes my lips look bigger. I give this product 7 out of 10, because whilst it is lovely, it doesn't really do what it promises (plumps your lips).
