Health How To: Drink more water everyday

This blog has always been a beauty blog through and through, but just lately I have felt the need for a wider variety of posts, namely some health and lifestyle related ones. Having blogged for a couple of years now I have realised that, the purpose of a blog is to post what you enjoy, so I shall do that! I hope you enjoy these lifestyle based posts too.

Drinking more water was a New Years Resolution of mine, and in order to actually achieve it as opposed to saying it and never following through, I came up with some strategies that would help get that water in me! I know this is a common goal for others to improve too, so maybe it might help you!

Boredom is a blessing
Funnily enough, I have found that the times when I am most bored (like when I am studying for a test, sitting in a maths class or attending a boring lunch time school meeting) are the times where I drink the most. This is because I am literally so bored that I have nothing else to do and play around with my water bottle to pass the time. If you carry a bottle around with you, when boredom strikes you will drink a whole heap and you won't even be aware that you are doing it.

Play with flavour
I never really thought about adding flavours to your water, but there are so many blog posts out there discussing healthy additions that you can make to your water to make them taste a little more exciting. From cucumber and mint to berries and lemons, there are so many cool things you can use to change an otherwise boring drink into something more exciting.

Take advantage of strange novelty bottles and cups
I'm not going to lie, it's a bit sad that this is actually an effective technique that makes me drink more water, but if I'm drinking out of an interesting and usually shaped water bottle or a pretty cup then I am more likely to drink more water. This is mainly because I want to use that cool container and the only way to do so is to, well, actually use it. My favourite is this ridiculous cup and curly straw that my Grandparents brought back from a cruise they went on. Whenever I use it I drink so much more because it is just so fun!

Drink with every meal
This is probably the easiest way to drink water, and that is by simply having a drink with every one of your meals. It is an easy and natural kind of habit to establish that really increases your water intake.

Set goals
This sounds a little strange, but at the start of the day I set goals about how much I want to drink by allocated times. This gets me thinking about drinking water and makes me remember to actually drink. At school I'll often aim to drink 750ml (the entire bottle) every two lessons because this gives me an opportunity to go to the toilet during the breaks as opposed to in class time.

So there are my water drinking tips. I actually find these really effective, and so far I've managed not to fail my New Years Resolution just yet, a definite improvement compared to what happens in other years! I hope you find them helpful too!

Fake glasses - I'm not trying to insult you

So recently I purchased a pair of glasses. Contrary to, uh, logical reasoning, I don't have vision problems. These glasses contain no fancy lens but rather do nothing to enhance my already adequate eyesight in any way. They're not the oversized, thick-framed hipster glasses commonly viewed in a negative light, but rather petite little square shaped frames that don't even try to make a statement. So why on Earth did I hand over the cash (which actually wasn't very much I might add) for an essentially useless item? The same reason that I own more than one T-shirt and shoes in more than three different colours. Because I like how it looks.

You may be thinking that I am painfully vain. Maybe that is so, but at the end of the day we all have to wear clothes and I would assume that at least 50% of the female population (a statistic based on no reliable evidence whatsoever, just the inner workings of my estimation making brain) in the Western world enjoy a bit of unnecessary accessorising with jewellery, scarves, bags etc, etc. To wear a pair of glasses when I in fact do not rely on them in any way is to me, simply another way of completing an outfit. Why should the vision impaired ladies get to have all the fun?

Well apparently not everyone agrees. After having made the spontaneous purchase I started to doubt my actions. A little web surfing scientific research produced a whole other side to the argument whereby those who actually needed glasses for medical reasons were a little extremely irate, finding it to be a huge insult. It seems that when it comes to the fake glasses trend, you can't sit on the fence about it - you either love it and embrace it with all your heart or you hate it with a deep loathing from the bottom of your soul. Why so extreme?

I do appreciate the haters' point of view to a small extent. It must be frustrating seeing someone frolicking about with a pair of glasses they don't need when they themselves have no choice but to wear the frames they were assigned to upon discovering that they couldn't actually see anything.

Maybe short ladies feel the same way when they see a tall lady wearing sky scraper heels. I mean, tall ladies shouldn't be allowed to wear heels because they've been blessed with the long leg gene. It's simply preposterous that they indulge in a bit of shoe shopping in the heels section of the store when short ladies aren't even given a choice whether they want to wear flats! Similarly those with blonde hair should not be allowed to dye it brown, nor should straight haired ladies curl their hair because....because...I find it insulting.

See how ridiculous it is?! Of course tall ladies can wear heels, and in the same way those blessed with 20/20 vision should be allowed to play around with 'useless' (but oh-so pretty) glasses. It's not meant to be an insult, and we really do sympathise with those who don't have a choice, but when it comes down to it we're not really doing all that much harm are we? We always want what we don't have when it comes to the superfluous world of fashion, and in this case we feel like we are missing out.

Take it as a compliment. So many people are opting for 'fake' glasses these days that surely you're getting the message...glasses are attractive. You heard me, your glasses look great and to be honest they look so great I'm jealous and have decided to buy my own. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, isn't that right?

Basically, I've bought my fake glasses and I like how they look. I will admit, I do feel a bit silly wearing them around people who know my vision is fine, but around the house or around people I don't know, I love to wear them. I'm not wearing them to offend you, I'm not wearing them to impress you, I'm wearing them because I like them and there's nothing more to it.

I would love to know how you feel about the fake glasses trend, even if you are extremely against my opinion!

New Years Resolutions

Happy New Year, and welcome 2014!

So I'm really not a Christmas kind of person. Sure, it's nice to see the family and all of that, but we tend to do that fairly often anyway and it is considerably less stressful seeing the family when it isn't Christmas and everyone is calm and peaceful! Nevertheless, I may not be a Christmas fan but I do love New Year.

Something about fresh starts and exciting new opportunities just appeals to me so much, and of course I am one of those people who every year make wild resolutions that I really have no intention of keeping. However, this year is going to be different and I know everyone always says that but I'm serious, this year is going to be different because I'm going to make 4 resolutions that I'm actually capable of achieving.

1. Read more books
I love reading, it's honestly one of my most favourite things in the world. I'm going to be in year 12 this year which means I'll be stressed and busy all the time, so I really want to schedule in some time - even if it is just on the weekends - to simply read a good book. I've already gotten off to a great start, having read 11 books since I first started my holidays in December so hopefully this continues.

2. Drink more water
When it comes to water I swear I'm like a camel. I can honestly go a whole day without drinking a single thing with no real problems. Winter is the worst because I just do not drink. I know this is absolutely terrible so I'm going to make a huge effort to drink up. Everyone at school carries a drink bottle around with them, so I shall begin doing that too, but it's just so annoying having to go to the toilet all the time!

3. Blog, blog, blog
This one is easy - carry on blogging. Blogging is such an enjoyable activity for me, and despite the fact that this is going to be a huge year, I intend to continue doing my best to post as often as possible, and read everyone else's wonderful blogs.

4. Be content with less than perfection
This might actually be the most difficult one to work on, but the most important too. As I've mentioned, I'm going to be a year 12 this year which is absolutely terrifying in every way! School and study is really a number 1 priority in my life and I dedicate so much time to it to do really well in my studies. I've always been a perfectionist and it can be challenging when I get grades that aren't what I consider to be perfect. This is of course, not sustainable, and I want to be able to finish the year knowing that whatever grade (ATAR) I get is okay because I've worked hard and done my best. I need to change my thinking which will be hard, but worth it.

So there are my 3 big resolutions for the year, and I really do hope that I stick to them. I might even include my progress in every Monthly Favourites post so I don't simply forget them and stop working towards them.

I would love love love to hear your resolutions for 2014!

Behind the scenes of my 'Summer lipstick wardrobe' post!

L-R: A grumpy blogger's lip swatch, Attempt number 1,
Attempt number 2, Test photograph
So making my Summer lipstick wardrobe post was undoubtedly one of the most time consuming and challenging posts to make. I thought I would give you a bit of an insight into the Behind the scenes look at a beauty blog!

1. Taking the lip swatches
Having never really done many lip swatches before, I soon realised there was a reason! You wouldn't think it would be so hard, but after the fifth or sixth swatch your lips are starting to get chapped and gross from applying the lipstick and then wiping it off, followed by another and another and another. Your lips start to get stained with for or five different lipsticks which changes the colours of the others and it just gets all too hard! Taking the photos of my lip swatches took me forever.

2. Editing the lip swatches
The next part was to crop the photographs and then assemble them in the grid, numbering them and circling the numbers. This isn't terribly difficult, just once again very time consuming.

3. Determining which photo goes with which lipstick
So the next issue was trying to figure out which lipstick went with which photograph. Sure, some of them are obvious but others not so much. In the end I actually had to take some new photos because I just couldn't figure out which was which!

4. Photographing the lipsticks
This really shouldn't have been so hard. I needed them arranged so that you could see all of them at the same time, so I had to use a brick for a tier. The brick was filthy and covered in dirt and dried concrete so it was a real challenge to get the lipsticks to balance on the top. I then found that the background was too busy and was interfering with how the lipsticks were displayed so I had to get a cardboard box to stand in the background. That was hideous so I invested in some wrapping paper as a background. The weather was quite hot so all my lipsticks started melting when I was trying to photograph them. Of course, because that wasn't enough, then the wind decided to pick up and blow half of my lipsticks across the garden (thank God all but one had the lids on!). And then, you won't believe this - the battery ran out and memory card was full. Everything was against me. Everything.

So as you can see, writing that post was hard work but worth it in the end because I think it turned out beautifully! I hope you enjoyed both the Summer Lipstick Wardrobe post and this behind the scenes look!

Q&A - Life

Here I am to answer some more questions that you asked when I was running my giveaway. The questions in this post are questions about life.

1. Where is your favourite travelling destination?
Cambodia was my favourite place that I have ever been, but it is hardly a regular travelling destination that I go on! Darwin was another amazing place I've been. I especially liked swimming in the waterfalls at Litchfield National Park. In general I like to travel places that involve road trips and the coastline.

2. What is your biggest pet peeve?
People who sniff instead of using a tissue. It honestly drives me crazy. Also, when people yell to me from across the other side of the room instead of just walking over to me. I'm not sure why this bothers me so much but it does!

3. If you could live anywhere, where would it be?
I am so boring but I would honestly stay right here in little old Adelaide.

4. Do you have any weird food combinations?
Sadly I don't but when I was tiny apparently my absolute favourite thing was warmed pineapple juice. Disgusting!

5. What's your favourite school subject?
Biology is my favourite, closely followed by English. Maths and Chemistry are the other two I will be studying next year in year 12 but they're not my favourites.

6. What are you plans for once you finish school?
At this point in time, I want to volunteer overseas for a couple of months, then return to Australia and study Speech Pathology at University while working a part time job. I want to cross off a few things from my bucket list...all those things you hear about in stories like road trips, watching storms on the beach and learning languages (I want to learn sign language!).

7. What has been your favourite age to be?
Well I'm only 16 so I haven't got too many ages to choose from...when I was 12 that was a good year because I was in my last year of primary school which I absolutely loved and I didn't have a care in the world. 16 (this year) has also been a nice age because I'm old enough to look after myself in almost everything (except for driving, hanging out to get my P plates!) but being in year 11 has been pretty stressful at times. I imagine it only gets worse in year 12 and then uni!

And there we have it, another Q&A post down. The last one will be next week, another one full of beauty related questions.

Q&A - Beauty

When I had my latest giveaway, one of the options to earn additional entries was to submit a question that I would answer as part of a Q&A post. I had so many more questions than I was expecting so I think I will do a couple of different posts! The first is questions post addresses some of those questions related to beauty.

1. What is your holy grail beauty product?
Excellent (but ridiculously tricky) question. I can't name a specific product (there is so much I've not yet discovered!) but lip balms in general are my absolute saviours!

2. What are your thoughts on high end makeup?
Being a 16 year old kid, sadly my budget does not accommodate for high end makeup of any kind. I own one or two 'high end' products from being blessed to win them in giveaways but I have never purchased any myself. For those who can afford it, I say go for it, but for me 'drugstore' makeup is perfectly fine...in fact I think some of the cheaper brands have amazing products that would probably rival high end products anyway! If I was to buy something right now, it would be a lipstick or eyeshadow from MAC, a blush from NARS, Chanel Foundation, YSL lipstick or Hoola Bronzer from Benefit! Wow, there is so much that I would love to own one day!

3. Do you ever feel like you have to gain a sense of self control after starting a blog since there's always so much temptation?
I'm guessing you mean self control in regards to spending money on makeup! Absolutely, since starting this blog my desire to buy more, more, more has skyrocketed as I am constantly aware of what's newly released and popular among other bloggers. Luckily, as I mentioned, being a student I don't have the opportunity to go crazy, but I've certainly had to think about my purchases a lot more!

4. What is your current "Slap on face and run out the door" look?
I have been doing a heck of a lot of this lately!
1. Garnier BB cream for oily skin
2. Face of Australia stick concealer
3. Maybelline Dream Matte Powder
4. Covergirl Lashblast length waterproof mascara
5. Nivea Fruity Shine Lip Balm in Guava

5. What is your favourite makeup brand?
This just about killed me this question! I love Essence because it has a small number of incredible (and cheap) golden products! Maybelline is good for eye products, Revlon wins in the lip department...Face of Australia is just all round amazing...Okay so that's four!

6. What is your favourite skincare product?
A quality moisturiser is the most important thing I can have!

7. What inspired you to become a beauty blogger?
I initially wanted to have a blog full of book reviews but I wasn't confident that I was capable of writing a quality review on a book, and that I would be able to read and review enough to post regularly. I found that it was easier to talk about beauty products so I decided to give that a shot and here I am now!

8. Would you rather wear the same lipstick or eyeshadow for the rest of your life?
Definitely the same eyeshadow (a golden champagne colour that blends into the lid but is still noticeable enough to look pretty!)

So there are 8 questions to get these Q&A posts started...thanks for your questions!

20 random facts about me

As you may have noticed, I've been really getting into these more personal, non beauty related tags recently. I don't imagine everyone would love these but I do have some beauty posts dispersed within them too.

I decided to do a simple '20 random facts' tag today!

1. I love the behind the scenes features some DVDs have almost more than the movie itself!
2. Handwritten letters are just about my most favourite things in the world
3. Waterfalls, thunderstorms and sunsets are the most incredible things nature has to offer
4. If I could be any book character I would be Scout Finch from To Kill a Mockingbird
5. I love list making and don't think I could survive without lists
6. Going on a mission trip to Cambodia is the best decision I have ever made
7. I love fairy bread
8. 8 is my favourite number
9. I don't think I've worked on anything as long as I have this blog
10. When I was little there were 5 things I always wanted: a trampoline, a house with stairs, a lava lamp, a tree house and those pin toys. At 16 I have achieved 4 of those 4 things.
11. The word 'wean' makes me feel sick. Not because of its meaning, purely because of how it sounds.
12. If I could live in hot weather (at least 28 degrees) every day, I would.
13. At this stage in my life, I never want to live anywhere else. I do however, want to travel.
14. I think studying biology is just so exciting. The complexities of the human body and human life is mind blowing.
15. I'm not a huge fan of Christmas.
16. Florence Welch is my favourite singer of all time.
17. I still miss primary school, and I'm in year 11.
18. My most worn piece of clothing is a tatty jumper from a state sports carnival I played netball for that my Mum nearly didn't buy because she thought I wouldn't wear it and it was expensive. It's faded and stained and all the fleece from inside is gone, and it is still my favourite piece of clothing, years later.
19. I am highly organised at school but my bedroom is always a complete mess.
20. I am hopeless at cooking. Absolutely disgraceful!

I love being nosy and hearing facts about others, so feel free to make up 20 random facts of your own if you want too!

Book Q&A

Books are probably my longest standing friends. I honestly believe there is nothing nicer in the world that sitting and re-reading your most loved book, all tattered, dog-eared and falling apart because you have flicked through those pages so many times.

I saw a book Q&A tag on Hayley's blog from Water Painted Dreams and I couldn't resist. I know it's not beauty related, but fellow book lovers will understand my need to do this!

What are you reading right now?
I literally just finished an incredible book called Unwind by Neil Schusterman. When I first borrowed it from the library I had no idea that I was going to love it so much, and that it would be so challenging and thought provoking. I'll be purchasing a copy for myself!

Do you have any idea what you'll read when you're done with that?
I have had a stack of books piling up for so long now. Included in that pile is:
- Catch 22 by Joseph Heller
- Lord of the Flies by William Golding
- Animal Farm by George Orwell
- The Great Gatsby byF. Scott Fitzgerald
- Watership Down by Richard Adams

They are basically all books other English classes in my school have read but I haven't had the opportunity to because our class reads different texts (Shakespeare, yuck!).

What 5 books have you always wanted to read but haven't gotten round to yet?
The books I listed in the previous question!

What magazines do you have in your bathroom/lounge right now?
I haven't read magazines in ages, actually.

What's the worst book that you've ever read?
That's a tough call, I've read some pretty horrendous ones. I really don't like fantasy books much.

What book seems really popular but you actually hated?
Goodreads
Well I've never actually read the Twilight books but I saw one of the movies (who knows which one) and that was so painful to get through, so I imagine I would feel the same about the books!

What's the one book that you recommend to just about everyone?
Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli. This book has so many memories, thoughts, experiences and people attached to it for me, it's amazing. To Kill a Mockingbird is another that I adore.

What are you favourite 3 poems?
Sadly I just don't 'do' poetry, it is just not my thing.

Where do you usually get your books?
The book depository.

Where do you usually read your books?
In bed or on a picnic blanket in the backyard with my dog in summer when the sun comes out.

When you were little did you have any particular reading habits?
I would read before bed every night. I also had a habitat for flying through an entire book in one sitting and then having 6 days off, then repeating that process over and over.

What's the last thing you stayed up half the night reading because it was so good you couldn't put it down?
Unwind, the book I just finished. It was 1am on a Thursday night when I closed it and went to sleep. That Friday morning was hell.
Goodreads

Have you ever 'faked' reading a book?
Kind of. For English we had two texts to read and write a comparative essay on. I had read both (Jasper Jones by Craig Silvey and To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee) of them before so I knew very well what they were about, but I may not have actually read them for the project. I received an A+ for that essay though so it wasn't too bad...

Have you ever bought a book just because you liked the cover?
I borrow books from the library because the cover is nice, but the books I buy are ones I have read beforehand and loved.

What was your favourite book when you were a child?
I enjoyed the Harry Potter books when I was little.

What book changed your life?
No single book has been life changing, but them all together, collectively, certainly has.

What is your favourite passage from a book?
She laughed when there was no joke.
She danced when there was no music.
She had no friends yet she was the friendliest person in school.
In her answers in class, she often spoke of sea horses and stars, but did not know what a football was.
She said there was no television in her house.
She was elusive. She was today. She was tomorrow.
She was the faintest scent of cactus flowers, the flitting shadow of an elf owl.
We did not know what to make of her.
In our minds we tried to pin her to a corkboard like a butterfly, but the min merely went through and away she flew.
Goodreads
- Stargirl, Jerry Spinelli

Who are your top 3 favourite authors?
Jerry Spinelli, Harper Lee and Markus Zusak.

What book has no one heard about but should read?
My sister lives on the mantlepiece by Annabel Pitcher.

What is your favourite classic?
To Kill a Mockingbird.

Oh my goodness, I loved doing this tag! If there are any fellow book worms, please do this because I would love to read your answers!

Priceline, sales and grumpy people

Among the recent excitement of 40% off sales for two days at Priceline I have discovered that a) I tend to purchase things I don't need just because they are there, b) some Priceline shops don't stock all the brands and c) some people get really grumpy for no reason.

I ventured down to the most convenient Priceline today to pick up some Sinful colours nail polishes, FOA glitter polishes, a Rimmel eyeliner and a whole heap of Essence products, only to discover that that particular store didn't stock FOA or Essence. Really? Is this a joke? Anyhow, to double check that I wasn't blind I politely asked the sales lady if they stocked FOA, to which she responded, 'I thought that would be pretty obvious.' Well that was a bit uncalled for!

Anyhow, determined to make it to the 40% off sales I then dragged my father along to a second store only to find the exact same thing. Until today I wasn't even aware that some Pricelines didn't stock FOA or Essence! I went to the Rimmel stand to pick up the eyeliner I wanted and it was out of stock.

I figured it was pretty ridiculous to drag my Dad along to a third store when, after all, it is just makeup. I had hoped that perhaps I could order it off their website, but of course it has crashed and there is no chance of getting on to it.

I am disappointed that I couldn't pick anything up with such incredible sales going on but there you have it. It has actually made me realise that I tend to buy things even when I don't really want them or need them just because they are on sale. Oh well, at least I got some driving practise even if it was a waste of time!

Here is what I was hoping to pick up in the sales today:

Face of Australia Gliteratti polish in Studio 54
Rimmel Scandaleyes eyeliner in Nude
Sinful Colours nail polish in Island Coral and Bare
Essence Stay all day 16 hour long lasting concealer
Essence Nail polish in assorted shades
Essence Nail Art Express Drops
Essence Blush Brush
Essence Eyeliner pen
Essence Eyeshadow brush
Essence French Manicure Whitener

When I think about it, all I desperately want is the FOA and Sinful colours polishes and the Essence Concealer and eyeliner pen. That cuts out 6 products that I would have bought unnecessarily, so I guess it is a good thing that I wasn't able to make it to the shops!

Did you manage to pick up anything exciting?

Fundraising - Do you have any words of wisdom to donate?

Fundraising. The word strikes fear into my heart. Not because I'm a horrible person who cannot part with their cash, not at all. In fact, I donate money to charity and spend a heck of a lot of time volunteering and organising money making events within my school community. The reason the word fundraising causes me distress is when I'm the one running around asking for money. It is so hard.

Back in January, I believe, I spoke a little about the fact that I was excited about going on a school mission trip in July this year. As part of the deal we are expected to do a whole bunch of fundraising which has been fine and we have been doing very well. Until now.

We are holding a silent auction at a popular gathering our school holds annually. That's where it becomes tricky. I find it SO difficult to ask for money/donations and now I have to go around to all the local businesses and ask them to donate their good for the auction. I'm finding it impossibly difficult.

So, what is the purpose of this post? Well, I was wondering if any of you lovely ladies had done anything like this before and if you have any tips or advice you could give.

Is it worth me sending emails out to bigger companies or should I stick to little, local businesses? Are there any businesses renowned for making small donations or is it like drawing blood from a stone? Should I look for gift vouchers, food, services or any particular types of donations? What usually sells well at a silent auction?

Any advice would be of so much use because, as you can see, I have no idea what I am doing and to be honest the whole thing scares me to death!

Non-stop January - I'm posting every day for a month

Happy New Year! Can you believe it? It's 2013!

At the beginning of every year I like to look back on the year that has passed and make notes of all the good things that have happened as well as any mistakes I've made that I need to learn from. I find it quite therapeutic looking back and reflecting and I encourage others to do the same. It doesn't have to be a formal thing, just thinking while you're lying there in bed, about all the great things 2012 brought. It's good for practicing appreciation too.

In the spirit of New Year reflection I compiled a list of my blogging highlights for 2012:
- I reached 200 followers!
- I held my first giveaway
- I experienced my first PR interest and was sent some products to review
- I started up some series' on my blog (What do you think Wednesdays, Top 3 Tuesdays etc)
- I really became comfortable with my blog and confident and could therefore relax and just enjoy blogging
- I become better at taking interesting photos
- I reached 45 000 page views on my blog
- I got my first spam comment!
- I celebrated my 1 year anniversary
- I reached 1000 views on one post
- I discovered some amazing blogs to follow!

I've also made a list of achievements and milestones I would like to reach this year in terms of blogging:
- Reach 400 followers
- Continue my What do you think Wednesdays series and Monthly Favourites
- Perhaps widen into fashion, hair and jewellery based posts
- Post a little more regularly
- Be braver with my makeup
- Use up a product or two!
- Reach my two year anniversary
- Hold another giveaway

So there are my aims for another year of blogging. I have fallen in love with blogging and everything that comes with it - the writing of posts, taking of pictures, commenting on other people's blogs, interacting with beautiful, intelligent bloggers, discovering new makeup and of course adding to my own collection! Speaking of commenting on other people's blogs, I am going to try really hard to comment more often because I do read soooo many posts and think they are wonderful, but I often fail to leave a little message. I myself love comments, so it is time I return the favour!

In the spirit of a new, exciting year I have decided to post every single day this month and I'm going to call it  Non-stop January.

I have been planning Non-stop January for a long time now and I hope you enjoy it! It will consist of all sorts of posts - reviews, NOTDs, OOTDs, EOTDs, TAGs, Makeup, Hair and even a DIY!

Be sure to get involved, commenting and enjoying the flooding of your dashboard with daily posts on YouReview!

It's Christmas!

Merry Christmas everyone! I am currently at the beach eating chocolate and flicking through magazines, which is what Christmas is all about for me.

I think everyone associates different things with Christmas, but the first things that come to mind for me are the beach, summer weather, holidays, magazines, chocolate, and gold eyeshadow.

Anyway, I hope you are all having a lovely time doing all the wonderful things that you associate with Christmas. Fingers crossed that you get some of the goodies you have been hoping for, but most of all I hope you have a fun, relaxing time with family and friends!

Everyone loves presents!

Applause for the makeup illiterate!

This is a bit of a pointless post, but I found the following conversation amusing and thought you might too.

Sometimes I forget how little others know about makeup. "What do you mean you haven't heard of the Face of Australia Pastels collection?!" I think to myself, "Are you seriously telling me you don't own a blush?" Being a blogger I like to keep up with the latest news and expand my collection as much as my bank account allows me to, so sometimes I fail to remember those who aren't like that too.

Such was apparent in a conversation I had the other day with one of my guy friends. It went along these lines....

Him: You like nice today. Your skin looks kind of smoother than usual.
Me: That's because I'm wearing more makeup than usual.
Him: Are you?!
Me: *Yes! I love it when I can fool them!*
Him: Let me guess what you are wearing. Uh...I don't know what it is called. That skin stuff?
Me: Agh, I'll name a product and you tell me where it goes.
Him: Okay, okay. Go easy, I don't know anything about makeup.
Me: Okay...concealer.
Him: Does that go on your lips?
Me: Not really, no. It goes on your blemishes and any redness...What about bronzer? Do you know where that goes?
Him: Oh, that's fake tan. On your body! Yes!
Me: Close, I suppose. I'll give you an easy one - eyeshadow!
Him: I know this one, under your eyes!
Me: I don't think I can play this game with you anymore.
Him: Give me another one, please!
Me: Mascara.
Him: Your eyelids!
Me: You were telling the truth when you said you didn't know anything about makeup.

It is conversations like those where I realise how much I really do know about makeup! Have you had any of these type conversations? Imagine if I asked him what highlighter was!
