Essence Twilight Breaking Dawn part 2 Blush - Renesmee Red

There is no denying that Essence leads the way when it comes to limited edition collections. Though I am aware that many people don't find any of the products in their regular range terribly appealing, few can resist the little beauties that come out for a month or two, only to disappear forever. I am not sure what is so alluring about them - whether or not the fact that the products become unavailable after a certain time contributes to its appeal I do not know, but I do know for sure that it works on me. Limited edition collections are the greatest, especially those by Essence.

When the Breaking Dawn part 2 collection (a horrible name in my opinion) came out, I was drawn to the gorgeous highlighter that was a part of the collection. Though this blush certainly caught my eye, I honestly felt that it was much too crazy to be wearable, so I didn't pick it up. The collection passed and reviews were posted and I soon became to understand that I was in fact wrong, and that many who picked it up were able to make it work perfectly. Oh how very frustrating!

Luck was obviously on my side because I then won a giveaway from Sophie over at Born to Buy, and lo and behold...Renesmee Red was in it! It was a lovely sight.

Though it is a bright, bold, true red blush it doesn't look nearly as crazy as the images you currently have in your head.

It is quite pigmented though can be dulled down as needed. When swatched directly it appears to be more of an orange toned red, but when I wear it I would disagree and describe it as a true cool toned red. It has no shimmer whatsoever.

I'm not going to lie - there are a range of things that have the potential to go very wrong with this blush (the number one tip I can give you is use this sparingly) but my God is this gorgeous.

I thought it would be super unnatural for my colouring but surprisingly I really felt I was able to make it work. When applied with a very light hand, it gives the most gorgeous (though slightly unnatural) healthy glow to the face. Having said that, I am not prone to redness and I imagine that those who are would not find this terribly flattering. As it is so darn red, it would add to any (even very slight) natural redness that you have and would enhance it to a very unflattering point.

This blush is long lasting and when I wear it, it seems to make it through the entire day without fading to nothing.

As you use so very little of this upon application, I imagine this would take a very long time to use up.

This is a lovely texture and wears well on the face.

The packaging is practical, and though it does look cheap, I quite like it. More than anything I love the fact that it is so cheap - thank you Essence!

I really cannot come up with any complaints for this blush because everything about it is just so lovely. It is completely different to any of the shades that I own (which are all pink pink pink!) and I have enjoyed switching it up a little. I still think pink toned blushes are my favourite, but I am so glad that I own this one too!

I give this blush 9/10.

  1. I bought this too along with the highlighter! I absolutely love it, though I don't get too much wear out of it. On me it gives a lovely reddish-coral shade!

  2. I was a bit frustrated as I bought it and then I won the competition for the breaking dawn pack haha, not that it was a bad thing because I gave it to my friend who wanted to steal it off of me.
I love essence collections! I hate how they're getting rid of all the best essence products all of a sudden like the I love stage eyeshadow base :'(

    1. Haha, at least you didn't miss out on the product like I thought I had! I think it is crazy how they are getting rid of all their best products...a bad move on their behalf.

  3. This blush was the thing from that collection that I wanted the most, so I bought it as soon as I could. It's such a lovely and different shade, that unfortunately I still haven't managed to get right. I think I need to get it out more so I can try and get the most out of it.

    1. It is a lovely shade, but it is a bit tricky to use. As they all say, practice makes perfect!

I KNOW, it's so bad how they're getting rid of their bestsellers... :'(

    1. Oh my goodness, I have that blush too and you are right, it is crazy pigmented!

I really do not understand why on earth Essence is getting rid of all their popular products. Makes no sense!

  5. This looks gorgeous, I love red blushes but find them hard to wear, too. Silly how they bring out limited edition collections which are better than the regular collection! x

    1. It is pretty ridiculous that they have better limited edition products than regular ones! Oh Essence!

  6. This seems to be quite a hyped blush from the collection. I like that it's a bold red and something that isn't too mainstream or with a lot of copies in the market already. I think this would look really pretty on those with fairer skin and also deeper complexions - though I agree that if you have a lot of existing redness in your skin tone, it could clash a little.

    1. It was a pretty hyped up blush from what I recall, and like you said I guess that is because there aren't too many similar products to it.

  7. I love this blush, I think it is one of the best things essence have released so far :) I agree that perhaps those with redness may not get on as well with this, but with a full coverage foundation underneath perhaps it may still look nice. I use my Real Techniques stippling brush with this, works a treat :) Beautiful swatch x

    1. Good point, with a full coverage foundation I expect most people would be able to make this work. It is such a lovely, unique colour.

    1. I hate it when that happens! I really want to get my hands on the Essence Cherry Blossom blush but it has gone too. Agh, what a pain!
