Applause for the makeup illiterate!

This is a bit of a pointless post, but I found the following conversation amusing and thought you might too.

Sometimes I forget how little others know about makeup. "What do you mean you haven't heard of the Face of Australia Pastels collection?!" I think to myself, "Are you seriously telling me you don't own a blush?" Being a blogger I like to keep up with the latest news and expand my collection as much as my bank account allows me to, so sometimes I fail to remember those who aren't like that too.

Such was apparent in a conversation I had the other day with one of my guy friends. It went along these lines....

Him: You like nice today. Your skin looks kind of smoother than usual.
Me: That's because I'm wearing more makeup than usual.
Him: Are you?!
Me: *Yes! I love it when I can fool them!*
Him: Let me guess what you are wearing. Uh...I don't know what it is called. That skin stuff?
Me: Agh, I'll name a product and you tell me where it goes.
Him: Okay, okay. Go easy, I don't know anything about makeup.
Me: Okay...concealer.
Him: Does that go on your lips?
Me: Not really, no. It goes on your blemishes and any redness...What about bronzer? Do you know where that goes?
Him: Oh, that's fake tan. On your body! Yes!
Me: Close, I suppose. I'll give you an easy one - eyeshadow!
Him: I know this one, under your eyes!
Me: I don't think I can play this game with you anymore.
Him: Give me another one, please!
Me: Mascara.
Him: Your eyelids!
Me: You were telling the truth when you said you didn't know anything about makeup.

It is conversations like those where I realise how much I really do know about makeup! Have you had any of these type conversations? Imagine if I asked him what highlighter was!

  1. Haha love it! My man is getting better at knowing some makeup trivia, he knows some shade names of products (obvs I talk about them too much) but he isn't sure what they are (gloss, shadow etc) It freaks me out when friends say 'I don't need that blush, I still have one.' Wait, what? Only one? haha

  3. Hahaha I'm the same, I ask my boyfriend similar questions and he has no clue! He can never remember the difference between mascara and eyeliner :P it's cute though!
But then when he starts talking about his hobbies, I'm just like 'huhhhhh?' so it goes both ways hehe!

  5. Hahaha I'm quite proud of my man. His beauty/fashion vocab has grown since dating me. He now knows brands such as OPI, Michael Kors, Cartier, Louis Vuitton, YSL, and Prada. I'm pretty sure he knows what foundation, concealer, mascara, eyeliner etc are.... will have to test him when I next see him!

  6. My boyfriend couldn't care less as long as I wasn't spending too much money on makeup haha! He does know a little more about women's fashion though! He knows I'm obsessed with Country Road but isn't too impressed with the prices of LV, Chanel and Prada.

Some of my friends have makeup that is years old and they're still using it! D: I've already warned them heaps of times that there are expiry dates!

    1. I'm not surprised that your boyfriend isn't keen on the prices of LV, Chanel and Prada! I can kind of understand your friends and them holding onto makeup years old - when you have invested so much money into something you really want it to last!

  7. My partner knows about 2 things - chapstick and moisturizer, because it goes on his face. Beyond that I can only imagine XD
