Monthly Favourites - May

It's the end of May. MAY! I swear this year just started!

I bought a lot of new products this month (as shown in this haul post) but if I'm really honest with you, I haven't had much time to try them all out because my life has been absolutely crazy. With assignments literally coming out of my ears and exams looming, trialing new makeup has kind of been last on the agenda, and I have been sticking to what I know works best.

My favourites for this month aren't really all that exciting but I guess are long time staples in my collection.

Face: The Maybelline Dream Matte Powder is the first makeup product I have ever hit pan on (crazy right?) and I hit pan on it this month. I guess that in itself explains how regularly I use this, it is a life saver.

Eyes: With the absolutely miserable cold weather (had a rant about it here) I have been changing my makeup to suit, and one of those changes was my eyeshadows, switching from lighter golden toned shades to darker more chocolate based browns. Arbonne eyeshadow in Smoke is one that I have been wearing regularly.

Lips: I have had this Blistex Lip Conditioner for ages and I absolutely hate it. Not even kidding. It is literally painful to apply - my lips sting burn- and it smells awful but my lord it works so well. My lips will never be the blistering, flaky, cracked mess they once were because of this product. I force myself to apply it before bed every night and it is saving my life, though I shall still continue to whinge about how much it hurts and how awful it smells.

Nails: I only wore one polish this month, the FOA Glitterati polish in Heart of Glass and my oh my it is pretty.

Other: For the last category this month it is my new watch. It is from nowhere special, just some random little shop in my local shopping centre, but I picked it up for $20 and I think it is beautiful! It had the most hideous band but my lovely Auntie made me a new one in about ten minutes and it has stuck by my side (or wrist) ever since.

All up this has been a crazy busy, painfully cold month! How was your May?

  2. That blistex stings your lips!? :O That does not sound good. I feel the same way about a Burts Bees lip balm that is sooo minty that it burns.
Lovely post, "heart of glass" is so pretty, wish I picked it up!

    1. I know I know, I wish the Blistex balm worked as well as it does without the pain I have to go through! Haha. Heart of glass is very lovely, though I still have my eyes on Studio 54.

  3. I've been swamped with assignments and exams are fast approaching for me as well! I wish holidays would just start so I can finally concentrate on blogging! haha I've seen Heart Of Glass in almost every favourites post this month and I still haven't been able to get my hands on it! Hopefully I will be able to jump on the bandwagon soon!

  5. I just got the FOA Glitterati in Heart of Glass- it is such a pretty polish! I never knew that the famous Blistex in a pot stings your lips, that's the first I've heard of it! Great that it works wonders, despite smelly horrid. The Arbonne eyeshadow is a perfect shade for winter too :)

    1. It is pretty! Perhaps I am ridiculously sensitive, but it seriously burns. Some might think I am crazy for continuing to use it but it just works miracles on my lips! The eyeshadow is a gorgeous shade.

  6. I love Maybelline's Dream Matte powder! And your watch is so adorable! I wonder why Blistex hurts to put on?! That's the weirdest thing considering how effective it is for you. Perhaps slight allergy?

  7. I'm still on the hunt for those milky glitters (granted there hasn't been much physical hunting). Also I've tried Blistex and I actually like the sensation because it feels like it's doing something and it is! I've had so many exams and assignments too - but exam block is still to come! Eek! The stress has had me breaking out like crazy! D:

    1. Why thank you :) In real life Smoke looks quite cool toned until swatched and then I find it quite warm, which works for me!

  12. Haven't visited your blog in ages (and neither have I written in mine, haha!). Just had a quick look and the Blistex lip balm caught my eye - have you tried the one in the dark blue pot? It's called Blistex Intensive Repair and it doesn't have sunscreen. I just bought it last week and my God, it was so effective. After 3 days, my lips were no longer dry or chapped. I was SO surprised!

I remember that I was allergic to a Blistex lip balm that's why I haven't bought anything by them for years but I was looking through the rack of lip balms that Chemist Warehouse had and most of them I've tried and didn't work or others contained sunscreen which I'm allergic to. I thought why not give the Blistex blue pot a go since it was only $3.70 anyway?

In general, I don't like lip balms that give me the cooling tingle effect but this one seemed to do the job so I guess, I'll let it pass.

...I just re-read what you wrote about the lip balm actually and it turns out that it was effective for you but you just didn't like how it worked, lol! And I was all out here typing telling you about an alternative! Anyway, I don't know if the one I'm using has the same smell as the one you have but this one definitely doesn't burn my lips. It works the same way as Carmex does for me, it's got that slight tingly feeling once you apply it. This one smells like corn to me, like the corn on a cob with menthol mixed in.

    1. Haha, I do that alllll the time :) I might have to check that out because I would love a balm that works just as well, without all the burning! Nice to see you around the place again :)
